how is BOS-TLV doing

Notwithstanding the video the aircraft I saw on the ground was not a 744.

Saw this article on jpost..
http://www.jpost.com/Israel-News/El-...-Boston-407412
"El Al’s CEO and President David Maimon says that expanding its North America operation was of strategic value to his airline"

Highlights:
  • To show that the US was as invested in strengthening these ties as Israel, US Ambassador to Israel Dan Shapiro was on hand to great the passengers. It was a sign of the “friendship between the US and Israel,” he said.
  • The passengers would fly on a Boeing 767, he said, adding that Boeing has had a long history of friendship with Israel and El Al.(so thats why they are flying a 30 year old plane.....)
  • Passengers were handed a baseball with the words “Maiden flight to Boston” as they walked through the gate.
  • Once on board, stewards and stewardesses handed out champagne.
  • El Al’s head of religious services Rabbi Yohanan Hayut held a small Torah scroll and uttered a blessing. He was joined by Rabbi Yitzhak David Grossman. The two also blessed the passengers as they boarded the plane.

Does that mean Litvakers are no longer welcome on El Al?

I wonder what blessing was said. הטוב והמיטב would be most appropriate, but it is fairly novel to apply that to a new airline route. Perhaps he was saying הגפן on the champagne.

Looking at Massport pax numbers from August they just released.

All middle eastern airlines (LY + EK + TK) combined had a 91-92% Load Factor for the month.

I played with the numbers and the worst case scenario is something in the 40% for Load Factor if the other two airlines were 100% but that's probably not case.

Those are pretty high numbers for relatively new entrants. You wonder if the airline execs are hitting their heads cursing themselves to not have started BOS service earlier.

Question is, are those passengers who would have flown another airline or passengers who would have boarded LY at JFK or EWR?

Look at load factors ex-BOS on other airlines. Would tell you that.

My guess is a mixture of both plus some market stimulation especially on the TLV side.

There's a lot of convenient 1-stop competition from BOS with all of the European flights for those that want to break the trip into two shorter flights.

Also did a one-way search for the next two months and the following days are sold out on BOS-TLV.

9/22
9/27
10/4
10/8

For TLV-BOS, the first three dates listed are sold out.

On the first 3 days mentioned, the flight does not operate due to the Jewish holidays.

Right! Due to Yom Kippur. They won't be flying right after the Jewish holidays is over.
