UP moves to Terminal 1

Starting 29.3.2015, all UP flights will depart from TLV Terminal 1. Arrivals will still be to Terminal 3. Passengers who bought tickets prior to today will be refunded some of the airport taxes.

Makes UP even less attractive. With no checked luggage it doesn't make a difference.

Passengers who purchased an UP flight ticket up to and including March 8, 2015 for departures from Tel Aviv, as of March 29, will receive a refund for the difference in port taxes (between Terminal 1 and Terminal 3) equivalent to $14.21 per ticket. For more information
The airport authority charges $14.21 *LESS* to use T1? Seems like a pretty large difference, and the airport has to piss away money on the shuttle bus. Makes more sense to have a semi-permanent "tent" right off of T3.

Is there any specific reason for this change? Or just to make room in T3 for the other increasing full cost carriers using TLV (who want customers to have lounge access, and better services)?

What a pain!

I imagine LY were pushing for this changethe rules used to be that only foreign carriers could have international flights depart from T1. This caused Up to be less competitive, as they had to charge $14.21 more than the competition.
As pax are bussed over to T3 after emigration, there is no difference in lounge accsess. Many people I know prefer T1 due to the shorter queues.

hopefully not everyone going through T3 will be forced to emigrate :p;)

I believe that the reason for this T1 idiocy relates to two things: the collective bargaining agreement with the airport workers, and jobs, and secondly the airport authorities' highly profitable contracts with the duty free shops.

entropy Mar 12, 2015 9:18 am

it would make far more sense if they opened up a DF in T1 and boarded by bus from T1, rather than screwing around with T3.

Lounge?

NYTA Mar 13, 2015 4:45 am

Is this the same thing as easyjet where if you're hand luggage only you can go straight to T3?

Making sense

And why is making sense relevant? We are talking about the Israeli Airport Authority - somewhere in between the Ports, the railways, and the electric company - but since their economic burden is hidden in ticket costs, it is hardly noticed. Very few airports are more expensive, and those pay for their own security costs.

Lounge?

Why do LCCs need a lounge?

NYTA Mar 19, 2015 5:07 am

I use the Dan lounge with Priority Pass all the time when I fly Easyjet out of TLV. Also use the other lounges in Europe when I fly Easyjet and Ryanair. That's one of the best things about Priority Pass - even when I'm flying on a $35 ticket from CGN to STN I still get lounge access.
