'New' VOD?

Just came back from a lovely 2.5 week trip (LHR-TLV-LHR). Was on a 777 for both legs of the flight.

The entertainment system was the regular one (small screen in back of headrest, controller in seat side). However, LY seem to have brought their own brand of 'VOD' to things!
Upon loading the VOD menu, it does indeed show a selection of movies and TV shows, allowing the user to scroll (however, using the controller - it's meant for a touchscreen though).
BUT...when loading a selection, it doesn't load it from the beginning - it just puts you into that channel that's playing (which can be accessed using the regular controls anyway)....

Only LY :D

Which reg was it?

Unfortunately can't remember, due to being somewhat floating on Percocet at the time....

If you tell me which day it was, and which flight number, I can find it!

Ly316 02/05/13
ly317 20/05/13

Didn't only ECE & ECF have VOD?

Well, in terms of how VOD works (in the usual sense), yes. LY seem to have decided to add on a little extra to the system, and brand it as VOD (hence my post to make people aware of it)

What's the issue? You demanded video, you got it. Who said anything about start times? :P

this has been the case in other planes too, for at least 2 years.
the VOD so called, is just a list of the movies. no actual VOD options.
just a shame.

They should take out the current VOD systems and just hand out Ipads. The programs would be better and taking out the outdated VOD system would make the plane weigh less which would translate into lower fuel burn.

4X-ECA also has real AVOD with many movie / tv show selections. Maybe not as great a selection as United or Delta AVOD, but it was still a decent updated selection, and a proper AVOD system.

Yes, I flew 4X-ECA, and it was a real AVOD (at least in C where I flew)

I fly UA BF between EWR and the Far East often. While their AVOD system is pretty good, they do not change programming often enough. There is no point to having an advanced AVOD system if you never change the programming.

With that said, these AVOD systems are bulky and add considerable weight to the a/c. Wouldn't it be easier for all airlines, including LY, to just hand out Ipads for the duration of the flight?

yeah, hand out ipads to israeli customers... what a joke.
half of them will get damaged, and the other half people will mess with.
these ipads are fragile, and you also need to charge them etc.
