tv not working - nice solution
i just wanted to give my good review on a recent ElAl flight i had.
i was flying to bkk on a biz seat with economy service on H class. the TV on my seat didn't work. even after several attempts to restart the system, my tv remained black. i approched the service manager of the flight. as the front economy section was full (biz seats) she offered me to take a seat at the upper deck. i could choose any available seat (numerous available). so i am thankfull for this solution. during breakfast, i was given the economy breakfast which was brought from downstais. i felt happy with the solution. |
While a nice gesture by FA, I think that if they already made the effort to upgrade you they could have brought you a proper C breakfast rather than offering you a Y class meal while the person next to you got there "proper" meal...

as there was no one sitting on my row (first row, upper deck) maybe they felt no-problem of just bringing me the economy BF.. but, at least i got the bread and juice of C :) |
Agreed. Seems a bit ridiculous to bring the Y breakfast.

Just wonderin' if C was half empty upstairs is it possible they didn't have enough breakfasts for the Y passenger?

Why? If you don't pay for the C meal, why should they bring it to you? While it would have been a nice gesture, the FA already "upgraded" OP to UD. Why should is it ridiculous for her to offer the regular meal?
the fact that i had to wait almost 2 hours without a tv (untill they finished the meal and cleanup) .. this could have been a nice gesture to compensate me for not having the tv. its not like the meals are so different (breakfast). anyway, i didnt mind it that much. just made a comment on it here in the forum. |

i am a GL. already sat in the biz section . so this wasn't any kind of an upgrade.

I agree that it would've been a nice gesture. I simply disagreed with the characterization of it being "ridiculous" that they didn't. Certainly not blaming you for commenting here though!

My characterization is be because once he was moved into the cabin with C service it required more specific thought and action to give him the Y meal. There isn't a huge difference and after the guy suffered just give him the meal the rest of the cabin is having instead of schlepping a meal from downstairs.

I hear. I guess that makes sense then

I find the concept of "business seat" with "economy service" to be one of the most laughable concepts in the aviation business.
If someone told me "sorry sir, we can only seat you in Y but we'll give you a C meal" I'd be pretty f'in pissed off. And I think you'd probably be entitled to a refund for the seat. If someone told me "sorry sir, we can seat you in C but we'll give you a Y meal" I'd be happy with a small voucher. The seat is 90+% of what you're paying for anyways. Why they think a stupid meal would deter people from using in 'in lieu' of a "real business" upgrade/seat is beyond me. The most important thing to most people I know who fly business (including me) is confirmability of the SEAT |

The most important thing to most people I know who fly business (including me) is confirmability of the SEAT what is more suprising - because of the limited space on biz (as the convert almost 20 seats into Y class) that sometimes they run out of W, so maybe people actually pay D class ! some still want the C service, so they pay for it (or buy S class and for 100% get an upgrade to biz) btw, this concept is used to increase revenue... if out of the 45+ seats in biz on 747 to bkk, they sell only 10, why not offer the rest for 250$ ? |
