Easyjet or Ryanair
 

apologies if this is the wrong forum.

Family of 6 flying from Rome to Paris in July 2007. Looking at the Easyjet and Ryanair websites, it appears that easyjet is slightly cheaper and doesn't charge a baggage fee for 1 bag. Is there anything I should be aware of or worry about with either carrier? I'd like to go ahead and purchase right away. I assume that there aren't coupon codes for July yet. But, the fares are low enough that I don't want to wait.

...since I have flown either but take a look at www.airlinequality.com and check out the reviews for both carriers. For me I will take the bus any day over Ryanair given their appalling attitude to their customers and imho, Easyjet is the better bet. Good luck!

I would take easyjet. In my experience both do an excellent job at delivering what they promise (transportation, nothing more) -- but Ryanair will drop you at Beauvais, not actually Paris, while easy will take you to convenient Orly. And, as you point out, not charge for 1 bag each.

As long as you have a high tolerance for orange.

I would take easyjet any day. If problems arise, nothing can be as bad as the lack of service from RyanAir.

I'd also go with Easyjet without a shadow of a doubt. I have usually found them reasonable and helpful when something went wrong, whereas FR are just cowboys, who would not think twice about leaving any pax in dire circumstances for the sake of saving 1 cent in operating costs. Only fly with them on a caveat viator basis.

Thanks for the great insights on easyjet. Looks like the right choice.

Can I ask a follow up regarding choosing between the Chunnel for $89 and Easyjet for $50 between Paris and London? I'm leaning toward taking the Chunnel for the experience and the chance to see the scenery betwen Paris and London. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Eurostar for sure. It's cheaper as well if you add in the cost to get to and from the airports.

The train by far for London to Paris if you are going from city centre to city centre. Getting to LHR from London is a about £3.50ish by tube to £15 on the heathrow express plus about 8€ from CDG on the RER if I remember correctly plus the lost time traveling between the airports.

Regarding the easyJet versus Ryanair take the first. easyJet are geared more for business people (ie flying from the main airports not strips in the middle of nowhere), crew is friendly, baggage allowance, flexibility and service is higher. Ryanair's philosophy comes down to "you paid a quid so don't expect anything more".

keep in mind that Ryanair is not flying to Paris (best guess is that you will end up in Beauvais sp?) whereas Easyjet might.
