The role of the mysterious microwave becomes clearer...

This is a more difficult issue than first appears..When I travel to YYZ or JFK (regularly) on business the sleeper service on the return is an absolute treat. I know it is sleeper service and I get the most valuable commodity on eastbound flights... 5 or 6 hours or so sleep.

BUT I have taken friends to JKF in CW and on the return they are excited etc and want to experience the whole product...and are generally hugely disappointed by the apparent cheapness of what they are offered for my $

i can understand both points of view but I would continue to endorse the sleeper service as a positive feature in balance

Thanks Mutu,

Finally a sane response after all the obnoxious Alistair Campbell wannabes who leapt in to put a positive spin on this rather flawed offering from BA.

For me, $5,000 ticket + no dinner just does not compute.

"Raid the larder" just doesn't cut it. On my flight this consisted of a laughably small mini Twix bar, a packet of crisps and an apple that looked like it had crossed the Atlantic more often than David Frost. I know that counts as a three course dinner in Scotland, but . . .

The ultimate irony was that my flight was very turbulent so nobody got much sleep. Hence, the people in steerage got just as much sleep as the people in F and CW, plus they got dinner!

I thought you paid for WT+ (<$1000) and upgraded with miles

Yes -- I already confessed to being a total cheapskate. I was referring to the sleeper service in general, for which some mugs cough up the full fare.

... who are generally the ones that prefer to eat before they board, and get maximum sleep on board.

As opposed to those on award trips, or a rare (or first) trip in Club, which wish to enjoy the full "experience" (even if it's in the middle of the night) and not miss out on anything... not even an on-board microwave meal.

I'm very sorry that quite a lot of the board disagree with you, but everyone is entitled to their opinion, and a lot of them have a lot of experience with the sleeper service product. I'm sorry that you think people sharing their positive experiences of sleeper service is "Alistair Campbell spin", a less charitable person might call that description "Daily Mail hyperbole". But of course, I wouldn't do that... I'm also sorry that you feel you need to resort to disparaging remarks both about board members in general and British in general. I would imagine many of my compatriots would lose sympathy with you for doing that, rather than listen to you more, but YMMV.

I think one of the best things about coming to FT is how much you can learn. But of course you must be willing to do that to get any benefit out of it. And to learn, you sometimes have to accept that your opinion may not be the only one. I hope you enjoy your FT experience.
