Easyjet: Safety and reliability?
 

I wanted to ask whether Easyjet a safe airline? To put it another way, is Easyjet as safe as BA or Alitalia? The Airlineratings website gives it a very peculiar rating: 2.5 out of 5, with "Rating Pending", whatever that means, while all other airlines are rated!

Are they generally punctual? an hour or so delay is no big deal, but we are flying the London - Rome route, and connecting longhaul on our return sector, so we don't want to be waiting for 3 hours or more!

The last question to address this issue was way back in 2014, so I'm asking again. Thanks in advance.

I'd have no hesitation flying them (and have used them quite a few times) - they're one of Europe's largest and most successful airlines, and are generally well thought of.

What does concern me, though, is your long-haul connection (or "non-connection", seeing it's on separate tickets). How much time are you allowing for this? And have you checked it's the same airport? (Most long-haul flights depart from LHR. Easyjet uses several other London airports but not LHR). Their punctuality record is OK, but if I had a long-haul flight to wouldn't book a same day (non-) connection on separate tickets.

I've already taken your advise and we're arriving a day before our longhaul flight (which are on separate tickets), no matter which airline we choose.

Looks like it's back to the trusty old legacy carrier for me. :D

Were you looking for negative comments? Hard to find about easyJet.

We and family have used them many times without issues and would be happy to use them again.

They're the biggest operator at LGW and some other airports and have knocked the stuffing out of LX at GVA and AF with French domestic flights. You never know, they may be doing something right. :)

In my opinion, they are one of the best low-cost airlines. As opposed to Ryanair, they also operate a high number pf routes where the focus are business passengers, not the occasional leisure traveller. Having a base at Geneva almost solely for this purpose gives a bit of an idea. Unlesd you might fly to a place like Ibiza, you will fly with other folks that easily could pass as daily passengers on a Frankfurt-Zurich route with Swiss.

I've taken quite some flights with them, and never had any delays or complaints whatsoever. Their newer planes easily top almost half of Europe's legacy carriers in seat comfort (although admittedly, that's not a too high of a bar!)

Airline safety is tightly regulated in Europe. Not an issue.
Easyjet have grown to be one of the largest airlines in Europe for a reason. Most of the time, they're providing the service that their customers want.

There aren't any safety question marks about easyJet. I've no idea where the 'Airlineratings' website gets its ideas from, but the idea that easyJet is an unsafe airline is absurd.

The airline is based in the UK, and is subject to tight European air safety regulation. It is the second largest airline in Europe by number of passengers carried (and by the same measure the largest UK airline).

easyJet also has a good record of reliability and punctuality. The last time I was significantly delayed when flying easyJet was when there was very bad weather in the London area (and I was flying back into a London airport) - if anything that showed that they were taking safety seriously, and the flights of other airlines were all similarly disrupted.

I was looking for comments, more than one. If I knew about easyJet's negatives and positives, wouldn't waste bandwidth.

Yes. But I decided that factoring in the cost of LHR-LGW-LHR by cab, since we would have taken a cab for our newborn, and our suitcases to check in, probably we'll stick to a legacy carrier.
