Nectar is being enhanced

Mods: Why am I posting this here? Because sometimes companies react to changes made by their competitors. So changes to Tesco might be on the way. Probably best to move this somewhere more appropriate after a few hours once those on the BA forum that want to read it have seen it.

Just received an email from Sainsbury's that from 11 April 2015 (good that they're giving substantial notice ^) you will earn 1 point per £ (currently 2 points) and the 1 point per bag for bag reuse is being scrapped.

Although 1 point per pound sounds the same as Tesco in store Nectar points are worth half what Clubcard points are worth. In store 500 Nectar = £2.50, 500 Tesco = £5.

Nectar is also the closest thing easyJet has as a loyalty scheme.

Would Tesco follow? 1 point/£2 doesn't sound as attractive even if it is the same. They could always devalue Clubcard points to make them the same value as Nectar while keeping the 1 point/£ rate.

Nectar doesn't send you vouchers every quarter, you can build up a massive banance like you can with frequent flyer programmes so it's good that they're not devaluing the existing points earned.

This topic has been moved from the BA forum to European Budget Airlines forum as it is more relevant to easyjet than to BA.

By the reaction this has received from the few places I have seen it mentioned it is very much a 'meh'.

Earning through shopping in Sainsbury's was never very profitable unless armed with a good selection of bonus coupons.

The scheme is good for the occasional free Pizza Express meal and thats about it.

Just in case my title seems a bit odd for those not familiar with the BA forum (where this was originally posted) my title was using the BA marketing definition of 'enhanced' which means the opposite of what it does in regular English ;)

I agree the scheme is not particularly rewarding and this just makes it worse. If I happen to go to Sainsbury's I will use my Nectar card because getting something is better than nothing but it doesn't do anything to help make me choose Sainsbury's over everything else.

I was surprised this got moved to a budget travel forum (due to the easyJet connection) rather than the UK & Ireland forum.

Sainsburys Nectar is rubbish. I have been a member for many years and spent quite a bit but got very little in return for it. Tesco offers far better deals and bonus opportunities. I buy 95% brand names so it makes no difference where I shop but I have given up on Sainsburys recently.

I use my Tesco credit card to pay for petrol at Sainsburys (and BP) and always swipe my Nectar card as well. So in theory I'm getting double-bubble (well, "one-and-a-half bubble" !) but in reality it takes so long to accrue a meaningful amount of Nectar points it's probably a waste of my time...
