EasyJet - Force Majeure

Due to the forecast of adverse weather conditions my flight from London Gatwick 18/12/10 0650 to Berlin Schoenfeld was cancelled the day before by EasyJet.
I appreciate the ample amount of notice, which meant that I was not stood at the airport waiting, sat on a plane waiting to take off etc. For that EasyJet I thank you.
However, what does concern me that when the decision was made there was no snow, that evening there was still no snow, when the flight was due to leave still no snow. The snow did arrive well after the flight was due to leave.
I was checking the websites of both airports and apparently both were operating a near normal service.
My question is this, how can EasyJet claim force majeure (thereby dodging the EEC compensation legislation) as a reason to cancel when other airlines continued to operate?
Has anyone got any experience of this?

Welcome to Flyertalk, HappyJohnUK

Even if both LGW and SXF were open Easyjet can, as far as I am aware, still claim force majeure if they had to cancel flights because aircraft were stuck at other airports... so you really need to find out the precise reason for the cancellation.

One way to find out is to enter your flight details here: http://www.euclaim.co.uk/Calculator.aspx

So very true but they are the worst airline for me.

So true they seem to be just out to decieve. How about my sons flight then - cancelled their out going flight and refunded but the return leg, some 214 Euros for the return on the 1st jan they refuse to refund as that will fly they say. I am so lucky that Ryan Air fly from Alicante and I so avoid most of Easy jets deceiptful way of doing business. I say this because I was flying Ryan Air to Gatwick at a similar time to Easy jets inability to fly and they behaved with honesty and very few delays for my flight. I suggest you fly with anyone other than easy jet in the future.

You're posting the same information in two different threads, something which is frowned upon at FT.

There is a first, though. Here's somebody saying nice things about Ryanair in preference to easyJet. :D
