Lock Low and Go at LAX

Hey everyone,

I live in Venice, CA and will have my parents in town from May 13 to May 27. Actually we do a road trip (3000 miles). As we will be driving long distances we want to have a very comfortable car, but can't afford an SUV at the regular price.

So I think I will try lock low and go at Dollar LAX. You can't beat that price and worst case is an intermediate car which is not too bad. I heard that if talk to the agent and offer to pay for prepaid gas and insurance the chances to get the car you want might be higher (because they get commission). And maybe a 5 or 10 dollar tip...

Does anyone have experience with what you can get at Dollar LAX? I'll pick up the car at 7pm on a Wednesday if that is useful info. Chances for a SUV, Minivan?

Thanks a lot!

Markus

Welcome to FlyerTalk, Markus!

Sounds like a great plan. I've done Lock Low and Go and the Thrifty equivalent (Wild Car) several times and have always been happy with the result. Like you say, you can't do worse than a midsize car, and as long as you don't have any problems driving a minivan or a large SUV (some people can't stand minivans or think the large SUVs drink too much gas), you should be fine.

Unfortunately, I don't have any data on LAX's history of LL&G/Wild cars, but I would presume based on nationwide trends that your chances of getting a minivan or SUV are fairly decent.

And you're right about "bribing" them with prepaid gas and coverage (IMHO, both valuable products, but if you're looking for the least cost, prepaid gas is easy to milk the most money out of). I've never actually seen anyone outright bribe an agent with cold, hard cash (or Starbucks gift cards or whatever), but if you're desperate, it's certainly worth a shot!

Good luck with your trip!

Ok, I think it's looking quite good.
I'll let you know what happened.

Lock & Go LAX.

The L&G rate in LAX got me a Hyundia Santa Fe recently at Dollar.

Thanks for the info.
A Santa Fe would definitely be ok.
