Accessible SFO Accommodation
After more than a year lurking on here, I've been compelled to actually join - I've discovered some great info/advice but need to ask a question.
My partner is a double amputee. I generally book/arrange all our travel but the next trip he is starting out without me and is determined to "do it all". I've been "gently guiding" to appropriate sites, but am a little stuck with the next one - has anybody got any suggestions for wheelchair friendly accommodation in SFO? Price range to approx $150.00/night. BART I am assuming would be the best way to get from the airport into the city? Thanks |
I have not been in San Francisco for four years, but four years ago I do not think it would have been possible to find a room in your budget areas unless it would have been in some really run-down place in the tenderloin. You might try to look at some of the older tourist courts and motels on Lombard St. There is a Days Inn and a Travel Lodge on Lombard that generally have rooms in the area of $150/night. They are older places, with exterior entrances, but since all hotels must have disability accessible rooms I imagine they could accommodate your partner.
Nothing on Lombard St. is near a BART line. I imagine your partner can take the BART into the city and then get a taxi to Lombard. As I am sure you are aware, San Francisco can be extremely challenging for people in wheelchairs. There are lots of hills and routes need to be planned with care. |
Thank you for that.
Coming from outside of the US, we were not aware that all hotels must have disability accessible rooms. We have day tripped to SFO before and he is quite sure he will be fine, and he will also have assistance with him - in the form of my Father. It could turn into quite a comedy! |
