When you need a wheel chair

Is it necessary to call the airline and tell them you require a chair to and from the aircraft?

Yes. A wheelchair request should be noted on the reservation. That way the airline can have one ready for you at the gate. If you don't tell them in advance, they have no way of knowing.

We called an airline yesterday about traveling with a chair. Make sure that you explain whether you're bringing your own and what assistance you need. Otherwise, they will make assumptions about you that could be wrong. [example: think that you can walk to your seat.]
