Freestyle Libre2 CGM
I was prescribed a Freestyle Libre2 CGM to try and have been enjoying it quite a bit. My question is does it set of the WTMD at US airports? I see the manufacturer recommends not going through the mm wave or x-ray machines, and says the sensor won't be damaged by going through the WTMD, but no indications of if the sensor will set off the WTMD.

Right now I'm still waiting to hear if my insurance will pay for the Libre2. Have to do a Prior Authorization for it to see if it's covered at all. If it's covered I'll get a three month supply of the Libre2 sensors while trying to navigate what if anything can be done to get coverage for Libre3.

My two week trial with the Freestyle 2 just ended yesterday. It was eye opening to see what foods really spiked my sugars and which did not. I'm going to be making some changes in some of the things I eat just because I didn't know how bad they were. I've been insulin dependent since 2009 and this has been fantastic to learn with. It's almost enough to get me to pay retail for the Libre 2.

Received word that my PreAuth was approved and a three month supply of sensors has been shipped. For less than I was paying for a months supply of testing strips. I will be reaching out to the insurance company to see if the Libre3 is covered at the same rate. If it is I will happily be going to that as soon as possible.

I really enjoyed the Libre2. I was finally able to get it to work with my iPhone, and using the app, it was pretty seamless. I used it for a year and it helped me lower my A1C from over 9 to 6.3. Of course, diet was essential too. But it helped me understand which foods were rough and which foods were not. I was able to control my diet a lot better. Plus, I was taking so much insulin I would sometimes crash at night. Using the CGM alarms, it would wake me up (I live alone, so that was a concern). It allowed me to cut my insulin in half.
Unfortunately, my insurance company decided that since I wasn't having any more hypoglycemic episodes and was not having to use the short term insulin anymore, that they were no longer going to cover the cost.
I talked to my doctor about it, and we decided to see if I can maintain the low A1C without it and if I start having low blood sugar episodes again, he would use that to try to get it pre-authorized again.
I still have a couple that I will use on vacation. The time zones mess me up a lot. And I might start buying them as needed as they aren't that expensive (but just not an expense I want to take on at this time). But, right now, my A1C is maintaining low without using the CGM.
I have pre-check, so I usually go through X-ray instead. But in Europe, I had to go through the scanners and it was no problem.
