Thanks for the video! My favorite orange was one I bought from a roadside fruit stand on US-278 somewhere west of Hilton Head Island, SC. It was almost as big as a grapefruit and provided great eating on my CLT-PHX flight home!

I almost went to San Fran this summer, that would have been great for oranges, but I had to cancel the trip!

I really dislike the pith on oranges..the texture is just so dry...

Valencia oranges!
 

I have 3 older Valencia orange trees and I eagerly await when my oranges get ripe nough to pick. Valencias make poor eating oranges because they contain too much juice and are hard to peel cleanly. But they make excellent juice oranges. The oranges keep for up to a month after picking so I have fresh orange juice for weeks!:p

On the other hand, living in Southern California, we can't take produce on flights unless we have a receipt due to fruit fly problems.:td:

Temples!

I'm partial to clementines and mandarins, especially satsumas. Satsumas are grown in AL, but are all sold to school cafeterias so if you want a local one, you have to be in school. I planted a Washington navel when I lived in CA, but left before it was mature enough to bear fruit. I don't picture myself living in citrus country again, even after retirement. But, it was nice to live in FL and eat free citrus every day - the trucks full of oranges on their way to the juice producers would spill their surplus at every corner they took too fast!

Clementines.

I'll put a word in for cara cara oranges. They're tasty, but maybe more visually appealing. They're almost pink inside.

i love blood oranges. for a number of years, we did not drink the morning juice in the pitchers because we thought it tomato or some such.

+1 to blood oranges. can't get enough of them.

Ooo... soon it will be satsuma season again :D I love them!

Florida has some excellent varietals of Oranges though... so my favorite one is the freshest one I can get at a farmers market... [IE- not in Alaska :(]

Technically not an orange, but has what I would describe as the best orange flavor - honeybells, ripe in Fla for only a month or so.
