Made right, it is great. There's a lot of marginal paella out there.

I guess that's my feeling. Every time I order it in a restaurant I'm disappointed. It seems like they throw all the old crap in there. This was true even in Spain.

I agree. That is why when I want good Paella, I make it myself.

Yes, I like paella.

First and best one I had was in a small Spanish restaurant in Stuttgart / Germany. Had some good ones in Spain as well. Always had some locals with me and they knew where to go.
Here in the US I didn't find to many places that make good paella. Best one I had here, was outside of Madison WI. Small restaurant with a great Chef/Owner. This was years ago and unfortunately I don't remember the name of the restaurant anymore.

Would be nice to hear of some decent restaurants that prepare a good paella.

It's always struck me as somewhat bland, but I continue hoping to find a good one.

I'm not crazy about saffron so Paella is a so-so dish for me.

I love, love, love paella!!! The last decent paella I had the pleasure of consuming was in a small restaurant in Madrid that the Westin Palace concierge recommended. It was fab!

Had some truly great paella in various locations in Spain. LOVE it (again, if made right). Give me a bowl of gazpacho and a plate of paella, and I am in heaven. Because I love chorizo, I really like the mixed paella, as opposed to the strictly Valencian paella, or the purely seafood paella.

If in Newark, in the Ironbound section, I recommend the paella at Forno's of Spain. About as close to a paella from Spain as I have had here in the states.

I love paëlla. The best ones so far : one - a purely seafood one at a restaurant in RTP ( oh some 12 yrs ago) and another one made by a couple from Uruguay for the 40th birthday of a friend ( seafood and chicken)

Yes...it's great. And maybe served with a nice Rose wine

I took one out of the freezer last night to defrost in the fridge, it will be dinner tomorrow night.

It really has to be made right, not just a tossed together dish like so many restaurants do it.

A good Paella is GREAT an average Paella is poor. It has to be FULL of fresh seafood and full of taste otherwise its way to bland and a waste of a good meal.

Something in the papers a couple of days ago saying that they've just discovered that saffron is very good for the eyes - has been even known to reverse some forms of blindness.

So, if you want to be able to see for ever, eat paella regularly!

I am thankful to live in a place with GREAT paella.
