best dog for chili dogs?

Made chili last night, it was great. Have some leftovers for tonight and am naturally thinking chili dogs. Any suggestion on what type of dog would go best with these suckers?

Sabrett hot dogs would be my choice, if you can get them where you live.

I like red hots (I know not a true hotdog) topped with cheddar and chili

My favorite would have to be Hebrew National 1/4 lb'ers.

No Sabrett's in the west, but we do get Nathan's which are OK. They have that snap to them.

I would have to say.....poodles!

:D

In food I'd actually eat, only a braut!

I honestly don't think it matters. I like a good hot dog, but chili overwhelms one. I like to taste the dog through the condiments.

I prefer to eat kosher hot dogs only. HN or Nathans, if not give me a Vienna Beef. Onions and Cheese are a must.

If you're visiting the Washington, D.C. area, get your chili dog fix at Ben's Chili Bowl. Not at all healthy, but ooohhh so good.

In this case, I will say that texture is more important than flavor so I would look for something with a natural casing. I used to be able to buy natural casing hotdogs from the deli counter, but supermarket deli counters continue to go downhill around here. Back home in a past life I would buy local, which meant Whorle's.

I would have to go with Nathan's (previously mentioned) or Bar-S smoked sausage. While Nathan's are good, I can eat (multiples of) the latter with no condiments.

Vienna beef dogs, Hebrew National or any good natural casing dog will do.

Just make sure it's good chili! :D
