Palm Dinner Special

Mike,

I went to the Palm web site. Is this an 837 special promotion?

Thanks!

i thought large lobsters were not desirable. when i lived in lincoln ma, the local grocery store in waltham sold 4 lb and over lobsters for seventy nine cents a pound.

I think 3-7 pounders should be fine. Those massive 10+ ponders are best left for salad and soup.

Correct. Middle large lobsters could be a touch tougher than their 2# cousins, but are still QUITE tasty!! ;) :D

Properly cooked, large lobsters are just as tender as little ones. The
biggest one I ever cooked was I believe 16 lb, and it was just fine.

The issue with tough lobsters of any size is overcooking.

The reason why large lobsters are hard to find in the market is
because of limits placed for fecundity issues. Probably the
misconception regarding toughness and lobsters results from a
combination of slavish adherence to an X minutes per pound
recipe and a sour-grapesish attitude from lobstermen or
fishmongers who have to make up some kind of excuse for
not having them.

Just went to visit my caricature recently and was happy to see that they brought the lobster promo back...there's also a partner drawing going on with the lobster vendor. Look for a blank to fill out in the check holders.

DFW and IAH. :)

My fiancee calls the chicken parm there "sex on a plate". You will not be disappointed in the Italian side of the menu, despite the Palm's well-deserved steak reputation.

Just recently enjoyed a 3lb lobster. Meat was as tender as can be. In high school when I went to Boston to visit colleges, I brought back a 19lb lobster. It was insane. Don't really know if the meat was tough though. My mom cooked it to death. Both literally and figuratively.

I may go three or four pounds if splitting it with somebody but at home we always go for the 1 1/4 lb ones, love them (had some last night as a matter of fact). But this is way overboard (was released yesterday)

Big old lobster avoids date with NYC dinner plate

KENNEBUNKPORT, Maine (AP) — A huge lobster that was destined to adorn a dinner plate is back in the ocean after a New York City restaurant granted him a reprieve.

The 20-pound crustacean, named George, was returned to the wild Saturday in a rocky cove in Kennebunkport, less than a mile from the summer home of former President George H.W. Bush.

George was transported to Maine by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, which had beseeched City Crab and Seafood to allow the lobster to go free.

The activist group says the giant lobster may be up to 140 years old, although conventional standards for guessing a lobster's age put it closer to 80.

It had been caught off Newfoundland, Canada, and lived in the restaurant's tank for about 10 days.

Aren't they afraid the Bushies will have George renditioned to some other jurisdiction where he'll be waterboiled?

Nice Information

Make sure you purchase your lobsters from a store with a live lobster tank. Lobsters will be separated by weight, with an average lobster weighing between 1-1/4 and 2 pounds. Lobsters are priced per pound, not per piece, so take your budget into account when making your selection. One 1-1/4 pound lobster will feed one person.

Don’t worry, you won’t need to reach your hands into the tank to select your lobster! The fishmonger will fetch your choice for you. No reason to be concerned if the lobsters are not the bright red color you may expect (that red color will develop when you cook your lobster).

But for Dinner with this type of amount seems to be a bit expensive. :td:

Um...for this 1 person a 2 pounder at the very least would be enough. My fave time for lobster is during baseball season, when I can steam a lobster at home and crack and eat it while watching the Sox on TV :D

Be sure to ask for some rockweed (=kelp) packed in with your live lobster to keep it calm during transit and storage. I've also used rockweed during steaming to introduce some seawater to the mix, though this process can be messy when you clean the steamer pot.
