A splash of ketchup, mustard and chili.

Flo's relish, mayo and celery salt; just discovered this combo this past summer.

Agreed! ^^ With the exception of the tomatoes. It almost makes it worth it to fly through O'Hare to grab a Vienna Beef hotdog. ;)
Really. Years ago there was a very good place outside of security in the AA terminal (Im talking 85 or 86). Where are good places in the AA area now? Or anyplace really. |
There are lots of things that are good on hot dogs, pretty much all listed here. Personally, I don't think ketchup belongs anywhere near one(and I love ketchup).
I agree that Sonic makes a very good chili dog. Best I've had eat-out. Wienerschnizel chili dogs are not shabby either if you order the all-beef dog. The bun is paramount. It MUST be white, light, soft, and steamy. Costco buns are too big and dense for example, and others are worse. My all time favorite eat-out hot dog is the Vienna Beef dog at ORD, served exactly as shown in the picture, but minus the relish. I generally prefer plain yellow mustard on hot dogs, and reserve the specialty mustards for brats, polish, hot links, etc. |
Really. No one else likes BBQ sauce on their hot dog (or brat)?
I'm not too much of a toppings guy on hot dogs. Nor do I like ketchup or mustard (with one exception below). My Costco polish sausage will have only kraut on it. My one complaint with my local Costcos is that the kraut is by request only. And they serve it from a warmer. I prefer my kraut chilled. My Swedish hot dogs will have spicy mustard and fried onions. |

Well, did you try it with cottage cheese?

I'm a Chicagoan, so I like all-beef dogs the best, but I'm not one of those no-ketchup purists (just as I don't get into the thin-vs-thick pizza crust debates; like Andrew Zimmern, my attitude is, if it tastes good, eat it!)
I like some but not all of the Chicago-style toppings. Specifically: mustard, grilled onions, pickle spear, celery seed, and yes, ketchup. All the above great on polish sausage too. |
"Nobody, and I mean nobody, puts ketchup on a hot dog."
Detective Harry Callahan Most of the time I like it simple, but I love Skyline Chili dogs. |

Detective Harry Callahan Now, it can be revealed that only recently I was served a hot dog topped with chili, chile con queso, and a few slices of onion and jalapeno pickled in escabeche. It was pretty d*mn good! |
