So Horse, was it a turkey night or pizza night?

Come on dish it out, otherwise we will be very disappointed. :D

It was turkey, it came out "O-K" nothing special but it wasn't bad either.

What I didn't like (nor did the kids) was the skin. I usually like the skin on birds but this skin was a bit tough.

I took a picture but its still sitting on my phone

Not bad for a first time, you will improve through the year once you start roasting your own chicken. :D

We are all waiting for your turkey picture and how did you cook it.

There's a reason we ordered our entire dinner from a restaurant. By the time we purchased all the ingredients to cook it, we would've spent the same amount. Turkey came partially cooked with complete instructions for finishing it, sides just had to be reheated. They even provided the chicken stock.

When we do cook a turkey, we just stuff some combination of an apple, an orange, an onion, and a head of garlic in the cavity. No brining, no basting, no stuffing butter anywhere, no bacon:eek:, no flipping the bird:p, etc. Always moist, always easy.

The blueberry pie I reheated came out well today

So other than the skin...what didn't you like about it? Was the flavor ok? Dry, moist...what? Did you make gravy?

flavor - OK
dry vs. moist - just a tad dry (not too bad but just a tad)
Gravy - Yes a bit too runny

It was fine in the end but not worth the time, effort and cost

For Christmas if we are home it will be a roast or ham

Just like a kid, you need specific questions to answer, you can't handle general ones. :p

I couldn't decide if this post belonged in "Are You Doing Anything For Thanksgiving" or this one. I decided to put it here since the story involves cooking a turkey. I went to a friend's home for Thanksgiving this year, my son lives out of state now and neither one of us could join the other for the holiday.

When I got there the friend's friend for some reason had taken over the responsibility of cooking the turkey. We were told to be there at 2:00 PM and I kid you not she had just put the turkey in the oven. She took that turkey completely out of the oven about every half hour to see if it was done. There were several of us there, all experienced turkey cookers and the person cooking the turkey wasn't taking anyone's advice on how to cook the turkey. Number one piece of advice to leave the turkey in the oven!

We finally realized that the turkey wasn't going to be ready anytime soon so we started playing the game "What's Yours Like" which was quite fun. At 6:30, four and a half hours later we were served a dried out turkey and all of the rest of the food was cold as it had been prepared about 3:00 PM. I am surprised we didn't all get food poisoning.

At least the game was fun and the company was good, not all Thanksgiving meals are great tasting.

yeah easy to make but then you're left with ham to eat :(

Nice bone in prime rib in a roaster is SUPER easy to make and you can't even compare how much better it is to eat (and eat leftovers of) compared to ham.

Turkey parts are not clean/de-feathered/dressed as nicely as the whole bird.

But your boys were probably glad you made the effort for them.

Cheers
