We love our little Nespresso machine, I'd never seen one before we went to Europe this spring and they were everywhere as mentioned before. We made the mistake of going into one of their shops in Munich, sat down at the coffee bar and proceeded to drink our way through just about all of them! Almost bought one right on the spot but because they aren't dual voltage decided to wait until we got home...now have had it for about 6 months at use it at least once a day...a big fan of the new Dhjana special edition, ordered about 30 sleeves of it to make sure I've got some when it sells out!

My wife uses the aerocino gizmo everyday too and while I don't like milk in my espresso I have to say its pretty cool, fast and efficient

In Rome, I wouldn't ever bother with a Nespresso machine since there are so many bars that make fantastic coffee. In NYC OTOH, I can't live without it. Way better than a moka. And even better than my BIL's 2-3K machine that takes 15 minutes to come to pressure. I've recently gotten way into Roma capsules.

I like the constant battle between Nespresso and all of the refillable pod makers. I see that the new Citiz and Pixie models won't accept the aftermarket refillables. Still, it's only a matter of time before they do.... I'd prefer the option of being able to occasionally make my own, as I've run out of ESE pods a couple of times and am cranky until I get them replaced.

I currently have an Italian LaPiccola Sara ESE pod espresso and will probably switch to a Nespresso in the next half year or so - don't like the steam function of the Sara and the difficulty of cleaning the entire machine. I had a Swiss Saeco for a little over a decade but toward the end I couldn't get parts to fix the pump anymore.

Have had the Nespresso Qube for over 4 years now and my wife and son bought me the Pixie for Farthers Day...fantastic I keep the Pixie at work on my desk and it is so portable just put it in a bag and take itaway with us for weekends. I still claim with nespresso you get a perfect coffeee and crema every time. I swear it is better than most of the "Cafes" I get coffee from.
Maybe because I am a short black drinker. Nespresso is the perfect espresso every cup.^

Can anyone tell me how much packets of pods are in the US? Interested to know if I am paying too much and may stock up when I'm in the States next

Curious, I picked up a Tassimo about two years ago for the wife. I'm considering a switch to a Nespresso. Anyone have experience with both machines?

Pretty good, but not as good as Peet's coffee
 

It's pretty good, but Peet's coffee is still the best. ^

As pod based machines go Nespresso is streets ahead of Tassimo. The quality of the coffee is far better.

Lavazza Blue is at the top of the pile but their machines are really quite pricey.

Unexpected gift from Nespresso
 

Picked up a couple of parcels that were delivered yesterday, one of which was a large box from Nespresso. I hadn't recalled ordering anything online and I always buy my sleeves from the local boutique (three blocks away) not by mail. Opened it up to find a "cube" container for my capsules with a note from the head of Nespresso Canada thanking me for my patronage over the past years, being among the first in the country to adopt the coffee making system. Nice gesture.

Anyone else out there receive one of these?

I received one last year 2012 for the same reason.

Before the Christmas holidays, 2012, I bought a mixed sleeve gift box (200 capsules) and also received a "fountain" display for capsules resulting from the purchase. The two items made a nice Christmas gift. I use something different though at home.

A few years ago I found an old German crystal candy bowl with a lid in our basement collection of odds and ends. It is the type with 3 glass legs, and after cleaning it up, decided to use it as a capsule selection display. It holds 35 capsules, and like candy, one can see the various capsule colours through the lid.

Our guests and relatives find it both elegant and practical enough in the dining area near our kitchen, as I am constantly filling it with new capsules.

Nespresso's are nice machines, nothing wrong with them.... but, for a serious coffee experience, nothing tops a proper Jura Capresso. Simply, no contest.

I have been a Jura fanatic for almost 15 years now, and nothing comes close.

Having used a Tassimo for a year now (bargain basement Xmas 2012 stocking filler), I find the different coffees available for it to be quite variable - with some being really quite good and some being remarkably similar to posh instant coffee. But then I've had good and not-so-good "Clooneys" also.

The issue with the pod-based coffee makers to me is that they are quite expensive for what they are and lock you in to buying that manufacturer's coffee pods, which are more expensive than just making coffee the old fashioned way.

The benefit, of course, is that they're brainless. Put a pod in, press a button, and voila! But I think Nespresso is using the Apple marketing recipe: make people pay a premium for something that looks pretty and delivers a high-end-of-the-middle-market product.

I have used a Tassimo for the past 6 years and recently replaced it with a Nespresso/Aeroccino set up. I had primarily purchased the Tassimo for lattes and cappuccino. While I loved how efficient the Tassimo was and how little effort it took for me to enjoy a latte there were numerous issues with the Parmalat milk. It would chunk or not entirely dispense, the pods would expire quickly. When everything worked the Skinny Lattes via Tassimo were just great but I was getting tired of the guessing game and chunks in my drink.

With the Nespresso there's no guessing involved. Every cup is as I would expect it to be, fresh milk means no Parmalat funkiness. there's a bit more clean up involved but nothing substantial.

The Nespresso heats up faster than the Tassimo but that may be because my Tassimo is older. I think that the Tassimo is more versatile and has more of a variety of beverage offerings but the Nespresso is very good at what it does.
