Have you been to a tasting, lately?
I'm thinking of going to Wine Focus Australia - timed to coincide with James Halliday's Wine Companion 2009.
There is a promises wines from all of Australia's best regions (a LOT of regions!). Riedel glasses. A special setup fo his 'Winery of the Year', with many 94+/100 wines (Halldays rating). It's at the MCA so is easy to get to and is very tempting. Have you laid out cash for a decent tasting recently? |

I've been to many tastings (as is probably evident from my screenname) and wouldn't hesitate if you have the opportunity. The fact that its out of Riedels means that they are taking care to make it a good experience. One word of advice, you might want to bring a spit cup with you, as tasting that many wines will require spitting if you are to really appreciate them, and there are often lack of spittoons at events like this.

Considering the tasting is $35 each I'm going to have a look but might pass.
Our local wine tasting buddies have proposed we catch up for dinner and so we will likely have more than a taste tonight. :D This particular function seems interesting so I'll pop just for a stickybeak. For anyone interested here is a link to a list of wines at the tasting (actually A-K & L-Z lists) |
I went to a beer tasting (free) and had a French beer that tasted like baby formula.
The French should stick to the stomping of grapes unless someone knows of a really good French beer. |
Monthly.
Well, when I'm home anyway. I'm afraid I've missed a few, but managed to make it to my group's recent August tasting, featuring a flight from my favourite region, Jura. None of THAT flight went into the spit cup, I can tell you! In fact I raced out and bought six bottles of each. Such lovely wines! If you have a chance, go. Wine tastings are fun and informative, especially if they're double blind. There's nothing quite so humbling as not knowing what you're drinking, and nothing quite so exciting as finding out your favourite wine of the night is the $20 bottle, and not the $50 one! |
Been so busy couldn't even think of any wine tasting! :D Now getting my wines mainly inflight.

i assume this is going on in OZ.
unless the either the wine is provided free, or halliday(i am sort of provincal, so never heard of him) is really using the 90 to 100 point system, a tasting of "many" 94+ wines on the parker system would cost over $100 and approach $200 once tax and tip are added in, in the DC area. |
I have never paid for a wine tasting event and probably never will.

I often attend the Wine Spectator Grand Tastings and consider the fees to be money well spent, as it's a great opportunity to taste many wines I would not be likely to drink otherwise.

Wine Australia was the premier tasting in Sydney; this one wasn't nearly as broad or deep (29 wineries) but it's early days and I hope it grows. :)

I got to multiple ones every week..
but it's for work..soo I can't say they're all enjoyable.. :( |
Recently went to a complimentary Glenlivet Whisky tasting at the new Century Liquor store in Rochester, NY. The tasting included the 12 year, the 15 year French Oak, the 16 year Nadurra , the 18 year, and the 21 year old.
If you find yourself in the Rochester area, this 45.000 sq foot wine and spirits store is worth the visit. |
