Coffeehouse music--Love it or hate it??
hey guys,
it's jenna and the other day while i was sitting around this coffee shop that was at the corner of my street from where i live, doing my work on my laptop, this song [commercial content edited] was playing on their stereo system. has anyone listened to it before?? normally, i don't really listen to coffeehouse music cuz usually people are talking all over the music, [more commercial content edited] they say that music in coffeehouses are supposed to set the mood and make your experience more enjoyable but if people are talking all over the music like normally starbucks near my house is packed, i can't listen to it so how is it supposed to make my experience better? [commercial content edited] so yeah, do you guys like coffee house music or no? Jenna umgd |
Hate it. In restaurants and bars too. It seems like the managers of these places pay a great deal attention to all aspects of the decor, then tell the staff, "Uh, put some music on," with no attention paid to whether the type of music, the loudness level, or the presence of music itself, is in harmony with the atmosphere of the place.

Does UMGD stand for Universal Music Group Distribution?

I like acoustic music and never go to a coffee house to work. If it's played so loud it interferes with conversation, I'm annoyed.
Speaking of annoying, using FT to promote something commerical for personal gain is frowned upon, so I hope you have no interest in promoting this particular artist, whom I have chosen to ignore until clarification is received. |

I have asked for the "music" volume to be lowered dozens of times and have never asked for it to be made louder. Ditto for the tv sound.

The music itself, i usually enjoy. The volume of the music being played is what pisses me off. Being on the road 4-5 days a week, I rely on coffeehouses as places for me to do some work before meeting with clients, and when the music is bumping I can't make my phone calls or concentrate as well as I'd like.

I've edited the commercial endorsement out of the first post... feel free to continue a general discussion on the merits of coffeehouse music.

This thread makes me realize how old I am! When I saw the title, I had fond memories of a coffeehouse I frequented in the late 60's - early 70's. It had a small stage where poets would recite and singer/songwriters would perform acoustic sets. The tables were huge cable spools covered with checkerboard tablecloths and illuminated by candles set in old chianti bottles. The walls were covered with very literate grafitti.
Very different from today's coffeehouse full of business people with laptops. Do the coffeehouses of my memories still exist today? Where? I'd really like to visit one again. |

Coffeehouse music is a small quartet of musicians playing Mozart or Strauss like they do it in Vienna. |
