The Miele Guide

The Chubby Hubby guy was not happy with the representation of Asian restaurants in the major guides. So he decided to do something about it and has started The Miele Guide. Voting has started.

The Miele Guide will be Asia’s first truly independent regional restaurant guide when launched in October 2008, and also its most authoritative—we do not accept free meals or advertising from restaurants. Written by food lovers who know and love Asia, The Miele Guide will rank and profile restaurants across the region’s major cities, categorised by country, city and cuisine, in a slim, indispensable volume.

The 2008/2009 edition will evaluate restaurants in 16 Asian countries—Brunei, Cambodia, China (including Hong Kong and Macau), India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.

If Burma is included, why not NK? If India is included. is Pakistan not included?

Whatever happens, I'll keep an eye out on the listings in Malaysia and Sri Lanka.

(BTW I fully expect that this thread will soon be in the Asia forum for obvious reasons. These lists don't have a good name, following the UK's SP List debacle. ;))

Mumbai: -
Indigo but only on the roof top, Aurus, probably the best restobar in India, high quality food and fantastic night club, Zodiac Grill mega expensive but very impressive. On the other end of the scale, Status probably the best quality inexpensive Thali vegi restauarnt in Mumbai. A 4 course dinner for $3.00

North Korea?

Unless there is a requirement to list restaurants in all ASEAN nations...
I don't understand why Burma, run by an extremely insular military junta would be included in this guide, while North Korea (aka NK), run in a slightly more looney tunes manner, is not.

It's not like Burma's junta has any time for any foreigner, even those bearing aid. :td:

Who has comments on the establishments in Singapore and KL? What about Jakarta?
Have you tried any non-hotel fine dining restaurants in Cambodia or Vietnam?

How expensive are we talking at Aurus? 200-300 for 2 or 600-1000 for 2 people?

Why don't you ask in the India destination forum? At least you'd get some people to read & possibly answer your question, instead of bumping this very old thread.

I thought that this 'bump' was news about the Chubby Hubby's Miele Guide!
