The Gourmet Pizza Spotters Thread
Noticing the non-DiningBuzz'y pizza (coupon!) thread I searched but did not find a general thread on gourmet pizza.
Not your regular pizza shop / pizza chain / takeaway in a box pizza. Not even (necessarily) a 'gourmet pizza' chain.
--- I found a great bistro in Victoria, on the Mornington Peninsula, with a real Italian character about the place. Beside the cellar door there is a huge outdoor bistro / beer garden with long, great tables, which were filled with people enjoying gourmet pizza (square pizza with the tinnest neapolitan (?) crusts) along with Rose, white and red wines from the cellar. ---

It might not qualify as gourmet or bistro, but it's certainly not local either: I think the pizza on Princess Cruises is some of the best out there. Except for the surf 'n turf variety: I ate that and there was a spice that my mouth didn't like...my lips swelled up for a good two hours, and my girlfriend still regrets not having taken my picture as it was happening.

Ahh, pizza! I prefer the very thin crust wood fired pizzas. The best I've ever had was in the mountains of Andorra. The second best would be any place in Nice, I would have to say I've never had a bad pizza there.
Slightly more local, we've discovered a restaurant in Cambridge, WI (near Madison), which makes a very similar pizza to those we love in Nice. The restaurant name is Tru, and they have a wood fired pizza oven, super thin crusts, and quality ingredients. Well worth the two hour drive for us:) Pazza Luna in St. Paul also has a pretty decent wood fired pizza, and a great atmosphere. |
