We have a chocolate cafe called "Moonstruck" - it is phenomenal! They are known for their amazing chocolate truffles, but also sell a plethora of chocolate beverages and desserts. Hands down the best place for a date in Champaign IL! They are slowly making their way across the US.... http://www.moonstruckchocolate.com/

I've once cooked a chocolate themed dinner party, where every course had to have chocolate in it - if you watch what chocolate you use and how you use it, it's entirely possible to have a non-sickly dinner. From memory it was something like:
mint and lemon sorbet in chocolate cups (ok, this was a cheat - finding a chocolate starter was almost impossible, so I hand made wonderfully fresh mint and lemon sorbets (the mint was amazing!), and served them in cups made from the bitterest chocolate I could find. It worked and was not at all dessert like!)

Roasted chicken served with a chocolate sauce - when my friends saw this on the menu, they thought 'Yuck!'. What they didn't realise was that it wasn't a dessert sauce, but more of a gravy flavoured with dark, bitter chocolate to give added depth - so something more akin to the sauces you'd get with game.

Dessert was a chocolate, hazlenut and pear meringue - well, I'd been restrained in the first two courses ;)

I also do make my own truffles - I've tried cumin, but couldn't get the right balance in the trial batch I made, so didn't proceed to a bigger batch. But my current ones have cardamon through them, and they are absolutely amazing - the cardamon and chocolate flavours just enrich and enhance the flavours so much... will be hard to try anything else after that!

Was it a gateau or a meringue?

A larger place in a more accessible location -- Max Brenner, Chocolate by the Bald Man -- has had a good run just off Union Square, the new food mecca. From the reviews I've read I'm not tempted, though I have walked through breathing deeply. They serve more than dessert, though.

I was there last weekend and was very disappointed. The service was lousy and the desserts overpriced and mediocre. I wouldn't go back.

On Saturdays from September through June at the Cafe Fleuri in the Langham Hotel in Boston, there is a Chocolate Buffet that is outstanding:

I took my mother there for Mother's Day last year and earned beaucoup browine points, much to the dismay of my sister. Highly recommended, and affordable for the amount and quality.

I recently also went to the Langham chocolate buffet and was slightly disappointed. Desserts were aplenty but I was expecting some savoury items in addition to the sweet items. But as a sweet buffet, one can definitely overdose on all the available chocolate items. The chocolate macaroons were particularly nice

As a resident or just for a visit?:):D

I originally misunderstood the question. My feeling is that a chocolate restaurant would melt by late March.

I vaguely recall a chocolate buffet on a cruise. It's much more appealing as the 5th or 6th meal of the day vs. one of the 3 main meals. Of course, all of my kids would have eaten a chocolate breakfast early in their lives.

And did.

Visions of Augustus Gloop come to mind.
