Just got my package in the mail today. Unfortunately I will have to wait until July or August to try it out. But I will post back with comments.

My VIP card and materials arrived in the mail the other day. Guess I will have to take it for a test drive sometime soon.

Thank you dhammer53, I googled Morton's VIP, filled out the app., for my husband, and have received the card. He will be in Vegas in June for a convention and if he is able to go, I will post his experience.

Dined at this location with clients in January this year. No corkage fee + after dinner drinks for VIP members. This location seemed to be a little better than average Morton's experience.

Other recent experiences that I remember:

Beverly Hills - was the worst experience. Similar to the SF food critic's of the SF location. Too bad, was wife's Bday with a large group too.

San Francisco - actually about average. Certainly not as bad an experience as wrote about by critic.

Dallas - absolutely the best steaks I have had at a Mortons. Also after dinner drinks like all others for VIP treatment, but unfortunately no personal wines welcome (corkage) as this is current Texas state law in restaurants where alcohol is sold. Unfortunate for me as I live here.

I don't want to seem cheap about the corkage fee thing. I just like to bring what I like to drink. I do try to tip well enough because there certainly is some expense for serving, glasses, and lost revenue for restaurant for allowing personal wines.

Regarding the wine lockers, I personally don't get it other than having your name on display. The lockers are typically near the entrance, thus wines are potentially subject to temperature variations or room temperature at best. I'd much rather have the wines stored in the restaurant's cellar or better yet mine before dining.

Grazie Texmanufan. Just a side note, today we received a duplicate VIP card. When I saw the envelope, I was hoping for a promotional discount, but it was the same packet we received a few days earlier.

I got a duplicate card and materials yesterday, too.

Yesterday I got my duplicate card. I was kinda puzzled as to why but I guess I now have another in case one is lost.

Received $100 gift card for birthday month.

Used my $100 birthday Gift Card Morton's sent me last week. They gave me a free desert (Godiva Molten Cake) and offered anything from the after dinner drink tray.

Get over the attitude

Mortons doesn't hold a candle to the finer steakhouses in NY. We went to the midtown location because I received a $100 gift certificate from Morton VIP program. My final bill was $80. :o

Having dined at those finer steakhouses in N.Y. I couldn't agree less. I've never dined in a better steakhouse.

Good to know about this program. Had no idea it existed before I've read this thread.

dchristiva Sep 12, 2011 8:53 am

Dined by myself at at the Morton's in NYC about a month ago. Hostess offered me magazines (current) and I had my iPhone to read the paper. Staff couldn't have been nicer. Service was great. Food was what I expected. Was offered an after dinner drink. I won't race back, but the treatment was pretty good, so I wouldn't avoid Morton's either. Obviously not the premier choice in Manhattan, but it held its own against other steakhouses I've tried.

It's not attitude. It's the truth. Morton's comes up short compared to several other NYC steakhouses.

I called the San Francisco restaurant for a reservation tonight and also asked about the corkage fee. The lady on the phone told me is it NOT waived. Bummer. I'm not going to pay $30 for someone to open my bottle of wine. I didn't have this problem in Phoenix.

Call back and ask to speak to the manager.

dchristiva Dec 9, 2011 8:18 am

I paid an impromptu lunch visit to the Morton's in midtown about a month ago. I walked in and showed the hostess my VIP card, just so she could make a note of my visit. I asked if I could sit at the bar and she said "sure". I had an uneventful (albeit, somewhat slow) lunch and when I was done the bartender gave me the bill. No offer of an "after-lunch" drink or anything else related to my VIP status. Obviously the hostess didn't acknowledge my card (in hindsight, she probably wondered what the heck I was showing her at the hostess stand).

Anyhow, I though maybe the VIP benefits didn't apply at lunch, so I wrote to Morton's (corporate) and asked. A week or so later, the midtown Morton's manager called and was very apologetic. He said the VIP benefits apply whenever a VIP guest shows his/her card and he said he'd make sure the staff was aware of the card and what it means. I assured him that I didn't write to corporate to complain, only to confirm the VIP benefits and policies. I said my lunch experience was fine and that I probably would have turned down the "after lunch" drink anyway. He told me to make sure I ask for him the next time I stop by the restaurant and he'd "take care of me". Hopefully he meant that in a good way. :D

El Cochinito Dec 21, 2011 7:52 pm

Lunch today at Sacramento with La Cochinita, our son, and my mom. Three of us were celebtrating December birthdays. On arrival we were greeted warmly by the maitre d' who wished each of us a happy birthday (by name) and presented menus with a personalized birthday greeting.

We enjoyed lunch from the prix fixe menu, adding a few sides for the table plus a bottle of wine. Lunch came with dessert but because 3 of the 4 of us had birthdays, the waitress insisted we each pick an extra dessert for them to pack up for us to take home. Including La Cochinita who wasn't celebrating a birthday. So we ended up with 8 desserts!

Total lunch tab for the four of us was a reasonable pre-tip $250 before applying my $100 VIP birthday gift card.

A very good dining experience made special by the staff.

- 10% discount on all purchased wine anytime
- No corking fees for any wine brought (although I RARELY bring my own bottle, I've only ever done it a few times)

Over the years I have received the following:
- Free bottles of my favorite wines
- Invitations to wine locker stocking events (usually a wine tasting) with a 20% discount on any wine purchased that evening
- Misc comp'd meals, parts of meals, etc...

I have received my Morton's VIP card several years ago part of Continental offer, however have never used it since then. Are the above mentioned benefits still in place? Do I have to book via dedicated number, or I can book my table via opentable.com and just show my card upon arriva to receive the benefits?

We did Opentable once and they knew who I was. :o
Just call your local restaurant if you want to confirm.

Be aware that there seem to have been some changes since February when Morton's was bought out.

The rolling menu cart is gone.

The staff seems less friendly especially with respect to VIP's. One time I called ahead as a courtesy and was old that I would need to arrive an hour later than I had intended. I asked about the VIP next-table thing, and was told that it was the "next available table" and the next available table would be an hour later.

Another time I came in with a group of ten, and we were not offered the VIP after dinner drink. I asked about it and the manager came over and told me we had too many people. Um, sorry I gave you more revenue.

I also read recently (not sure how true it is) that they were doing away with the VIP program altogether.

Oh and prices are higher and some dishes have been cut from the menu.

Interesting. I used my $100 b'day gift card late last month and had a fine experience. Of course, we went mid-week so getting a table wasn't particularly hard, but they've always honored my requested reservation time. I have noticed at my local Morton's and the one in NYC that the after-dinner drink offer seems to be less formalized (or remembered at all). The manager at the White Plains location asked us pretty late (like when we were getting the check) if we wanted an after-dinner drink. Kind of late at that point. I have seen some changes to the menu, but mostly for the better.

I haven't seen the "rolling cart" menu for some time. I never really cared for it all that much, so I don't miss it.

I would be kind of disappointed if they did away with the VIP program altogether. The $100 b'day gift card is a nice treat, and I have to say that, while Morton's isn't the first or second steakhouse I think of in NYC, I still have a good time and a good meal at the one closest to my house in White Plains and my wife and I have established a nice rapport with the manager and a specific server there.

Generally, yes, the benefits are still in place, at least as of my last experience in a Morton's about a month ago. I feel like I've had to prompt/remind them about the free after-dinner drink though.

I just show my card (or they have it on file after you make a reservation at a specific location) to get the benefits and for them to track my spending.

Which location was this? Was it your first visit there?

I have been to 4 different Morton's since the menu change and everything has been as the same or better in regard to the service.

The menu has suffered a bit in some areas but a few new choices were nice.

I have always been offered the drink but with groups of 4 or less... The presentation trays are gone.

The new music is my biggest let down so far...

The VIP benefit? Just apply. There's no charge.

United747 May 1, 2012 11:16 pm

I just used my vip card for the first time at the Morton's in Palm Beach. We did not make a reservation and we were seated right as we went in. It was not busy at all for a Saturday night. Service was fine, i felt like they were really trying to rush us though. Also, we had to push hard for free dessert. Since niether myself nor my dining companion drink, we never asked about the after dinner drink.

On a side note, my dad works in the restaurant business and has some interesting stories about some of the people at Landry's. He was not surprised about the lack of vip service at the restaurants after the Landry's purchase.

Like another poster said, Morton's is not the best, but it is still nice to go to a good restaurant and grab a steak.

Not to hijack this thread, but has anyone else had good/bad experiences at Morton's since after the Landry's takeover? I am debating doing a private party here, but before I invite a bunch of my closest friends and family, I'd like to know if it'll be reminiscent of the Morton's I knew and loved. I've had a couple small dinners in the past couple months, and our waitress was less than knowledgable both times, but I can't see how that could be Landry's issue? I thought it was a coincidence. I doubt they fired all the former waitstaff and replaced them for the transition. Or did they??

In our eyes, you have always been and will continue to be a VIP, especially as we transition into the new Morton's.

During this transition, we will bring Morton's into a thrilling new era of upscale dining. Some of the changes will be immediately apparent - for starters, we're updating the carpet, chairs, wall coverings, server and hostess uniforms. In addition, we will open up the bars and allow the energy from them to flow into the dining room. We've already modified the music, and as you see the new look come on board, we trust that you'll be enthusiastic about where we're going with the brand.

As has always been the case with Morton's, food will be the focus. Our menu has expanded, but we made sure to keep your favorites. As time goes on, we're sure to add even more! The ever-popular Bar Bites will still be around, and we will also look to expand the Power Hour where we can. And of course, we're still serving wet-aged Mid West Prime grain-fed beef.

The best part of the VIP experience is the list of benefits. You will continue to be invited to Wine Locker events, Celebrity Server Events, Lunch with a Legend and many other perks once we roll out our Landry's Select Club at all locations. Look for more information on this to come soon - you will be invited to enroll into the club, where you can immediately start earning points every time you dine, whether it be with us or with our sister properties. You will continue to receive your birthday reward ($100 if you have dined with us 3 times in the past year) and after dinner drink service - just ask.

We appreciate your love of our restaurant and look forward to bringing you with us on this ride.

Thank you for contacting us! We look forward to seeing you again soon!

Sincerely,

Tilman J. Fertitta

Interesting that they say "just ask" about the after dinner drink. I used to get asked, not have to ask.

Just had a big client dinner at the DC Morton's. Everything else was booked solid and the next available was a real game saver. BUT it took until dessert, after me bragging about how great Morton's was to get us in and about the drinks and dessert, to find out that my VIP benefits were no longer in place. I was informed by the waiter that since the Landry's takeover, the VIP program was gutted. There will be a new points per dollar spent program but no more drinks and deserts. Losing the benies isn't fun but the having no one tell me about it until the entire table is expecting them sucks

So much for just asking for the dinner drinks. Are you sure it wasn't because you had too many people? I totally was in your position a few months ago when I was told that we were not entitled to the drinks because we were a large party.
