Red Hot and Blue

Anyone tried it? How was it?

Decent - about as good as one can get in the Washington DC area -
wouldn't be able to compete, though, in BBQ-savvy areas.

Downtown DC has a place in Chinatown name is Texas BBQ??

Good stuff.

I've been to the one in Rosslyn a couple times for lunch. I love their huge pitchers of ice tea that they keep refilling (no glasses--they give you a straw to drink from the pitcher), and always leave full.

Been to several, some here in DFW area. Very good food.

I disagree with not being able to compete in BBQ-savvy areas. It all depends on the atmosphere you're looking for.

I just happen to have returned from RH&B.
I like it for having a broader menu than some places.
The kids like having a kid-sized portion of ribs on the menu, too. All of them teethed on rib-bones from RH&B.
I don't think it falls on anybody's top BBQ list (I think there's a 500-message thread about that), but it's good.

We were there tonight. Service was good, I was amazed they had a decent beer selection, and the pitchers of soft drinks were nice. Ribs were blah.

The bbq needs tabosco or chalula. Otherwise it is good stuff.

They do a lot of catering in the DC area. They're not bad but I wouldn't go out of my way. Hogs On The Hill is better IMHO but New York Ave can be a bit sketchy.

I have a long history with that place. :D

Lee Atwater, back when he was alive, used to be by RH&Bs quite often. He was one of its original backers.

Glad to hear that. I haven't been there since my visit in August with friends, and they enjoyed it just as much as I have (their first DC trip---they've been all around the world for swimming events but had never been to D.C.).

Haven't been to one in years, but it was definitely tasty

I guess I'm in a minority. I think they are pure crap. Then again, I'm willing to fly to Kansas City just to have real BBQ.

LittleRedFlyer Dec 12, 2007 8:57 pm

I have family in the DC area, and they insisted on going there last time we visited. It was okay. By far not the worst I've ever had, but definitely nowhere near the top of my list either.

What I love about this board is that that statement isn't a joke :D
My wife thinks I'm nuts when I tell her if r/t drops to below $150 we're going there for a weekend BBQ tour...
