I concur. Yamanashi prefecture (just to the East of Tokyo and North of Mount Fuji) is very well known for this. There are even Inns there that include fruit picking in their rates and fruit picking tours are available for tourists (so you can gather peaches with Fuji san in the background)

This site has locations by state, you may be surprised to learn that down a dirt road you have driven for years is a farm or something you never knew about, worth looking.

Thank you, cordelli. Nice resource. That said, it may be a little out of date and it always pays to call in advance if you have the number. The blueberry farm closest to me got out of the PYO business a couple years ago but they're still listed. Maybe I need to go knock on someone's door and ask. :confused:

it's weird, some stuff is like 100 years old, but the place I go to that has been around for years was just listed a few weeks ago. I think it's wiki like where people submit stuff, but it's never deleted.

I spent summers doing upick in my father's extensive garden. Some years, he planted a neighbor's garden as well. My brothers and I were expected to pick the vegetables we needed for meals and then for my parents to can. The food we grew was a significant part of the food we ate, and there was considerable drudgery involved.
