I've seen plenty of places in Japan where you can do this, although it usually involves eating it then and there (cherries, strawberries, grapes) and is priced as a flat fee for a particular period of time. Usually the name of the fruit followed by -gari, if I remember correctly.

it's weird, some stuff is like 100 years old, but the place I go to that has been around for years was just listed a few weeks ago. I think it's wiki like where people submit stuff, but it's never deleted.

I spent summers doing upick in my father's extensive garden. Some years, he planted a neighbor's garden as well. My brothers and I were expected to pick the vegetables we needed for meals and then for my parents to can. The food we grew was a significant part of the food we ate, and there was considerable drudgery involved.
