My only consuption of Gin is with tonic and lime. I like Bombay Sapphire. But, I have to keep a bottle of Tanqueray in the cabinet to make 2 martinis a year for my FIL.

Exactly--Flavor is a bit potent with Bombay.

For everyday drinking or the proverbial "desert island", I'd take plain Tanqueray.

For overall drinkability in summertime drinks or when introducing somebody new to gin, I go with Beefeater.

Hendricks is good, but quirky; I have to be in the mood for it, and take its cucumber flavorings into account when mixing.

Bombay Sapphire is a crowdpleaser; smooth, "gin-y", and impresses people who are impressed by such things since they have spent a lot of money establishing a high end brand identity. I prefer it very cold and >35,000 feet. :D

Despite my love for regular tanq, I find Tanq 10 too sweet. I have friends that swear by the stuff though.

Top 3 gin drinks by my personal consumption:
Tanqueray on the rocks, dirty
Bloody Mary with Tanqueray
Sapphire and Tonic

Agree! Hendrick's is my favorite by a longshot, then Tanq 10...

If I'm mixing a Tom Collins though and feeling frugal, regular green bottle Tanq does a pretty good job.

I must admit I am not a huge Gin fan but I do prefer Tanqueray over Bombay Sapphire. My dad loves Gin on the other hand and as such we are well stocked with various labels including yours!!

Tanqueray 10 but still enjoy the flagship Tanqueray as well

My preferred gin depends much on the cocktail.

Martin Miller's is my current favorite for most cocktails and straight up martinis. It's heavy on the floral and easy on the juniper.

209 is second for martinis, though it has quite a bit more juniper.

I also have a bottle of Cascade Mountain in the house but it has such a strong juniper flavor that I have yet to find a proper use for it. (This is a micro distilled gin from Bend, Oregon).

For G&T, Tanqueray is probably the best.

I've also tried Bulldog but find it to be a bit too bland, almost like vodka.

Hendricks and Bombay Saphire are fine but I like Martin Miller's much more.

Beefeater is my "go to" gin for mixing. Its flavor profile is well balanced with pleasantly sturdy, if mild, gin character. I think Beefeater makes for outstanding "modern" Aviations (as long as your lemon is fresh and you don't go overboard on the Luxardo maraschino). And I've really enjoyed lately Beefeater and freshly squeezed grapefruit with a touch of Aperol. The Hanky Panky (2 parts Beefeater, 2 parts sweet vermouth, 2 dashes Fernet Branca up with orange twist) I made a few nights ago was outstanding.

James, do not underestimate the emerging mixology scene here in the States. It is growing, there are converts every day (I am a recent one), major cities have developed cool venues for such (like No. 9 Park, Eastern Standard and Drink in BOS) and it's become the nexus of drinking and fine dining in many places. Find how Beefeater connects to the classic cocktail niche and market the heck out of it.

For martinis? Beefeaters will do, but I go more for Plymouth for a classic martini. And I love the floral/cucumber notes of Hendrick's in a martini with cucumber garnish, so subtle and pleasing in hot weather.

BTW, I never have Bloody Marys with vodka anymore...always with gin! the original infused vodka :D Go gin!

Maybe not a totally dispassionate view, but Blackwood's gin from the Shetland Islands is really rather good.
