Monkey 47 is in danger of being a victim of its own success. I understand they're looking for a large US distribution platform currently. Not sure how this is going affect quality, and I can't stand the concept of 'affordable luxury'. Decide where you want to play and stick to it.

Just happened by the liquor store today and saw Monkey 47 on sale for $49.99 for 375 ml. Is that the going rate?

Ungava gin. It's made in the Canadian North. Uniquely flavoured, and absolutely delicious.

Very heavy on cinnamon but for me (as drinking it neat) a welcoming surprise and very tasty. Wouldn't try to mix it with tonic.

Any of you had Shortcross gin? Lovely drink brewed quite close to me in Northern Ireland.

The liquor store attached to my local Costco has 1.75L bottles of Hendrick's for $63. Is that a good deal?

It's okay. I see it for $56.99 at Total Wine, not sure if you have any of those though.

Recently brought a few bottles of Monkey 47 Distillers Cut. Very enjoyable, except I don't really think it is worth three times the price of the normal Monkey 47.

Also from Germany - really been enjoying Gin Sul from Hamburg - worth a try. Also brought a bottle of Ferdinand's Saar Dry Gin - nice enough but not really what I'm looking for in a gin.

Along with Gin Sul, you should try Berliner Brandstifter (Arsonist!). Very subtle and floral, despite the name.

I think Monkey 47 is highly overrated. It has a very distinctive taste and I personally do not like it. For me it tastes like mothballs mixed with industrial alcohol... the worst part being the industrial alcohol taste.

While all other gins I have (about 20 in my cabinet) have a subtle nice alcoholic taste the Monkey reminds me of disinfection fluid. Very sharp alcoholic base, then mixed with some rather weird botanicals.

Last week I picked up another nice one: The Botanist. Very pure gin, nothing too fancy or special but if you are looking for a basic gin of high quality it definitly shines.

My favorites so far after 2 years of tasting an collecting are Marton's Gin and Professor Cornelius Ampleforths Bathtub Gin, casked aged.

Living in Hamburg, Gin Sul is of course part of my collection but it is not a gin for every day/mood. Quite sharp taste I think but enjoyable.
