Best Hamburgers in the United States [merged threads]
Alan Richman traveled 23,750 miles and consumed more than 150,000 calories while taking the measure of 162 burgers across the country—with one goal: to find you the best damned assemblage of ground beef and buns this country serves up

This strikes me as tremendously difficult to judge. But then, I'm not saying I wouldn't volunteer!
This does beg a follow-up article, though, on the best fries to go with said burgers.

Shewt. No Higgins in Portland, Ore.? What a travesty!
Painted Hills grass-fed organic sirloin on a homemade Rosemary bun and house-cured pickles. It so FREAKING rocks.
I'll bet Zuni's is a fabulous burger given that everything else on the menu I've ever had was nothing short of top notch.

I wonder how he selected the places to eat in the first place. I also wonder whether he tried any of the Chicago places that Sweet Willie refers to. I would doubt it, as it is a very recent list. The five Chicago places are not "burger" places and I don't think any of them have ever been on any Chicago lists before because most "hamburger lists" are lists of hamburger joints as is every place on Richman's list (or so it seems). Just my two cents.
I would presume someone here is also going to talk about In-N-Out Burger, which are great fast food burgers, but suffer in comparison to some of these other great burgers.
Isn't this the same guy who said Chicago deep dish pizza is just a casserole?

Here is a top ten list from Philly;
Top ten Philly burgers
This is not an endorsement, I have never been to any of the establishments and have only ever even heard of one of them before.
Note that the two places in Philly from the original posters list are not on the local list.

I'm not a burger person, but I recently had a Kobe beef hamburger from Newport Beach Brewing Company which I would have to say is the best I have ever eaten. They top it with blue cheese and sauteed onions and are willing to serve it quite rare...the juicy inside is almost like a steak tartare. For $15, this is probably the best deal in town as well.

Well having never eaten at any of these burger joints, but plenty of other good ones, I'd still have to say that nothin much beats an Elk Burger on a cool Colorado evening. Of course, not many restaurants serve this cuisine....but if you fancy a trip to CO get a hold of someone who lives here who can get you Elk meat (steaks are great too!), you will not be sorry! ... I think I'm going to defrost some for tonite...Mmm....
