Found the poutine on the list incredibly off-putting, but the Feb. issue of Saveur has poutine as one of their 100 favorite foods/drinks, etc. "Quebec's answer to cheese fries...in eateries both fast (McD's?) and fancy."

In Prague we were given the option of beer with the Happy Meal.

There's just something not quite right about having tortellini at McDonalds. The weirdest fast food offering though for me was not at a McDonalds, but rather a Fried Fish gordita at a Taco Bell in San Juan |
|
Indeed!
But, oh, how I hate it when someone doesn't know the meaning of the phrase "beg the question" |
8 years ago or so, I stopped at a McDonalds in Iowa that served chili and pizza.
|
Too many Indian McDonalds' Mexican Chicken Wraps.

In the South of France a few months ago they were testing several new beef and chicken options. I don't have pictures and only could bear to try once given all the other great food. I had a McCurry Chicken which was really just a fried chicken patty with curry sauce but the bun was also curry seasoned! In fact, all of the special offerings had special buns to match the theme. Sadly these are not on the McD's France menu now - there's some Chicken Mythic now - so I can't find them.
They also have a Croque Do - I think it's like a croque monsieur but on some sort of flat round toast. As asides, I do recall the McPizza when it was tested in New York at least 10 years ago and it was really good. Like the Pizza Hut personal pizzas but less greasy. And the Poutine in Canada is really bad. I guess unless you REALLY love McDonald's fries. Had it once - and I love Poutine - but never again at McDs. |

This thread just serves to find out what chains either stateside or around the world offer something unusual or something not typically McDonalds (chicken mcnuggets, big mac).
While I was with my wife visitng TPE, there was actually a so-called "Rice burger" as one of their value meals. The burger bun is actually made out of individual rice. I thought it was quite interesting. There are several Ocean City, MD McDonalds that offer crabmeat burgers. I wouldn't recommend them, it's probably 1/4 or even less real crabmeat. Neil |

LOL, not for me thanks. Frankly, as much as I detest McDonalds, I would gladly consume it's offerings if the only choice I had was British cuisine or McD's. Fish and Chips excluded of course. |

A few years back I recall partaking of Lamb McKorma with a side of samosas (served in a french fry sack) in the U.K.

Any other McDonald's around the world selling Alcohol? I never had a beer there but have had one in McD's in Brussels. |
In Spain they do offer gazpacho, but it's just a supermarket brand that they sell. Not specific to McD's. They have the Greek burger, and the McNifica, and McRib all the time, plus a McRoyal which is a lettuce-and-tomato burger. They also have something I can't remember the name of, but it's basically a Big Mac made out of quarter pounder patties. It had so much fat and calories that the government recently made them stop advertising it. Edited to add: the double-quarter-pounder thing is called a Big Big Mac. The apple pies are fried, like in the good old days, and the salads are the nastiest thing I've ever had in a McD's.
There is also a Capricho, which changes every week. Usually they are small burgers with different toppings or sauces, but they are doing chicken Caprichos right now. |
I go out of my way to find a McDonalds in every country I visit. So far my favorite food has been the Greek Mac. It tasted so good I had at least one everyday that I spent in Larnaca, Cyprus. I don't know how heathy it is, or isn't, but I wish they'd offer them stateside.:)

I remember many years ago stopping at a McDonald's in either New Mexico or Colorado that served tacos and burritos, not the breakfast burritos, but actual beef & bean burritos and tacos. On a side note, the McRib sauce makes a great dipping sauce for your fries.. ^

at passover in israel, i think burgers are served on matzoh rolls.
|
Jalapeno relish is available at the US/Mex border and in So. Cal.
Yum!! |

I LOVE Gazpacho. The stuff served at McD's in Spain is the sorriest excuse for gazpacho you could possibly find in that country. You can get great gazpacho in virtually all restaurants. Pass on the McD's gazpacho. |

Pass on the McD's gazpacho. There are far worse gazpachos in Spain - the stuff they sell in Mercadona for instance. The gazpacho sold in McDs is from Alvalle, from Murcia, and in my opinion their gazpacho is the best sold commercially (it's the exactly the same sold by el Corte Ingles). http://www.alvalle.es/ Sure, it isn't home made, but it's certainly the best alternative I've ever tasted (and I've tried an awful lot of them - I tend to drink litres of the stuff in the summer and I don't always get the chance to make it myself). If you want a truly disgusting gazpacho try any of the sludge sold under the name by Marks & Spencers or the Convent Garden Soup Company. The salads sold at McDonalds in Spain aren't too bad (if you can get over their use of iceberg lettuce), as well as a generous portion of canned tuna, REAL extra virgin olive oil as a dressing, salads also feature olives and asparagus. Other unusual items that haven't been mentioned yet are: tofu burgers with ginger sauce in Japan (was a limited offering - but very nice whilst they lasted) And battered squid rings in Italy. |
The McDonald's locations in south Texas sell empanadas 2 for $1.
|
From time to time I see a Buffalo Burger on the menu in Rapid City, SD.
|
I'm surprised no one's mentioned Lobster....which used to be on the menu at Mickey D's throughout Quebec. "McHomard"....pieces of lobster meat on a bun.
|
Oh, and the Arizona Burger in London. The whole store was decorated in a US theme- pictures of NYC yellow cabs, cactus, and route 66 signs.

The Arkansas McD's that I have been in lately don't have them. That includes Marked Tree, Mountain Home, and Hardy. Not a bunch, I know, but you can mark out those three.

I had the poutine when I was in Quebec City. It was okay, but I don't know how it compares to anywhere as that's the only poutine I've had.

McLobster is also available in Nova Scotia, so its sounds like an east coast of North America thing.
Rendang burger in Singapore and Malaysia - spicy beef curry filling. Mmmm. The MegaMac is back on the menu in Tokyo - they stopped for a while because it was taking over the "grill" with its 400 patties per burger. Also, the applie pie here is marketed along with the taro pie. I love the hot fudge sundaes. In Canada they used to have peanut topping - I haven't been able to get peanuts in Southeast Asia though. Anyone know why? |
