DC/NY Wine Flights/Tasting
can anyone help with restaurants that do very expensive flights/tasting dinners? (like for 2 people, not a party that uses full bottles)
wine and/or champagne actually it would ideally be located in the DC area, but NY would be fine if necessary. thanks! |
Are you talking about a tasting menu with wine accompaniments for each course? In D.C., you might try Galileo, especially the Labortorio section. My favorite Italian in D.C. is Teatro Goldoni, which has a great tasting menu, but I am not sure if they have wine accompaniments.

ive been very underwhelmed with the wine flights ive seen on menus.
same with tasting menu pairings when they list them. |
Try Babbo in NYC. You can visit their web page for details. Amazing place.

hmm, thanks, they have info on their vintage tastings online.

For the dc area, the single events are best. the best list for these is
http://www.thelistareyouonit.com/ sometines this site has a thing or two http://www.localwineevents.com/Washington-DC-Wine/ jaleo crystal city does a last thurs of month that is great. for individual sites, check dino finn&porter(yes, finn and porter) some of the very best san marco events for great venitian cooking, but medeocre wine wine enthusiast arrow wine calvert woodley(high end) current offering: http://www.wineaccess.com/store/calv...tter_id=106581 MacArthur liquor(hi end) schneiders planet wine(at least 3 tasting dinners a month) I am not a fan of donna, or goldini. have been to many tastings at both, and the only decent one was cooked by jeff bubin before he opened viadelia. we do not go out to individual tasting dinners, as these specials are such blowouts of special foods and wines. bit slow over holiday season, but will pick up soon |
wow, thanks slawecki ^
as for babbo, this is what i liked seeing there > Our “Vintage Babbo” dinners are typically held in our upstairs dining room, and normally consist of 6 or more courses paired with wines. Prices range from $295 to $695 per person, depending on the wines being featured. |
In NYC, I like Del Posto better than I like Babbo.
Both are owned by Mario Batalli. www.delposto.com |

Roberto Donna has closed Galileo because the building it was located in is being renovated; by coincidence, the Arlington, VA trattoria he's opened as a replacement was reviewed in the Dec. 31 Washington Post magazine.

In NY, Cru is on my list of places to go if I'm ever feeling rather flush (having said that, it's lower than the price range you mentioned). You can see their fall tasting menu on their website, along with the suggested wine pairings.
Per Se might be another good choice, although their website is less than helpful. |
does per se do individual wine flights that high?
just noticed babbo is italian wine (obviously :D) |
