My favorite restaurant is about 60-90 minutes away from Strasbourg: the Auberge du Cheval Blanc in Lembach. They have 2 stars in the Michelin Guide, and they provide very good value for the money. For example, the 4-course menu (which includes two small extra courses) costs 66 Euros, which is about enough to get you an appetizer at the 3-satr restaurants! (Just a little exaggeration here ;) ) Anyway, I have been very impressed by the food, service and ambience every time I've been there. It's definitely worth a trip!

Finks Stuebel - Strasbourg
We were there in 1999 and stayed at the Regent Petit France. We ate at Finks Stuebel in Strasbourg which is a small family owned restaurant not far from the hotel. It was written up in either Gourmet or Bon Appetit in the Fall of 1999, probably the Oct. issue along with several other Strasbourg restaurants. We enjoyed it and the owner was very gracious and made sure that we tried the local specialties.

Au Coucou des Bois - Strasbourg
Personally, I like the Restaurant "Au Coucou des Bois" since many years. The restaurant serves the famous tartes flambées and is my first choice for this regional special dish. The restaurant isn't expensive and has a family-friendly atmosphere. Tartes flambées is served only in the evening. On Wednesdays it's offered as plat du jour (I hope it still is) for lunch too. The parking is risky, try to find a space in front of the restaurant. Adress is 44 Allée David Goldschmidt, Strasbourg-Neuhof.
