Munich, Germany

I will have two night available in Munich this May, and was wondering what the best restaurants are.

First thought: TANTRIS (Michelin **):

I was in Munich earlier this week. Wish I had known about Tantris (we could have done it on expense account), but we did pretty well with our two days.

First night our collegaues took us for "traditional Bavarian specialties" at Spatenhaus across from the Opera. The food was quite rich, but definitely delivered on a typical German meal with beer. Not sure it is any better than other traditional German options, but it delivered on what we looking for.

Second night we had a really great dinner at Sevenfish on GartnerPlatz. Very inventive selections and the seafood dishes had great flavors. I would definitely recommend this place.

Tantris, Königshof and Schuhbeck's are among the best, if you are looking for something Bavarian, try "Wirtshaus in der Au".

Augustiner Beer Hall ^ ^ ^

The fancier sit-down section is really nice and even though its in same building as the beer hall, you dont hear much of the noise because its in a different room. It may not be the best but its pretty good. Of course, I enjoyed the beer hall section more...getting drunk with Munich locals instead of tourists like you would at the Hofbrauhaus.

What do you want to eat? German? French? Italian? Seafood?? Do you want formal or casual? Old school or trendy? It all depends...

The Kloster Andechs (Andechs Monastery) is just a quick local train ride away from Munich. Fellow FT'er LH738 wrote about it here:
