Vegetarian Restaurants in Los Angeles?
I'm going to LA next month and am a vegetarian. Any recommendations?
|
My favorite is Native Foods in Westwood Village, near UCLA (Go Bruins!). Westwood is essentially in the middle of Brentwood and Bel Air, and is pretty close to Beverly Hills.
I think Native Foods might have other chains in the LA/Orange County area. I also recommend www.vegdining.com and www.citysearch.com |
If you are in the Pasadena/Glendale area there is a supposedly good restaurant called Fatty's on Colorado Blvd between the two cities.
This is the only link I could find on it. http://www.vegparadise.com/dining410.html |
Best Vegetarian Restaurant in LA
Hi,
I visited LA sometime back. Had dinner at a place called 'Go Veggie'. Excellent vegetarian food. Here's the address of the place below. Go Veggie 5462 S. Centinella Ave. Los Angeles, California 310-577-0167 Cheers big4guy http://www.big4guy.com |
Try Real Food Daily on La Cienega Bouelevard. I am not vegetarian, but enjoy it when I dine out with a picky veganI know. :)
414 N LA Cienega Blvd West Hollywood, CA 90048-1907 (310) 289-9910 I believe they have one in Santa Monica as well. |
I'll take the opposite view on Real Food Daily. Truly awful food. The almost-vegan I was with liked it slightly better, but found it tasteless.

There is a veg' place on La Brea next to the East Inda grill, there are plenty of veg'Indian Places.Hugos on SMB has lots of Veg' Options.

Many of the more upscale restaurants in L.A. buy their vegetables at the local farmers markets (particularly popular is the Wed. market in Santa Monica). As a result, it is easy to ask for a roasted vegetable platter and one can rest assured that the vegetables will be fresh and beautifully prepared. Also, it is easy to eat a vegetarian meal at most good Italian restaurants. I was a vegeterian for several years and avoided most "vegetarian" restaurants as I thought that the food was generally terrible..particularly the ones which tried to use tofu as a meat substitute. The worse dish I have ever eaten was at a vegeterian restaurant; it was a "tofu sloppy joe." :(

Do you want a vegetarian restaurant or a restaurant with a vegetarian-friendly menu?
As a vegetarian of 15 years, I agree that vegetarian restaurants are by and large terrible. However, there are a good number of upscale restaurants with vegetarian tasting menus (though I've not been to either I've heard Patina in Los Angeles, which has a vegetable tasting menu, and Madeline Bistro in Tarzana are good). There are also your regular restaurants that have a mix of vegetarian and non-vegetarian items. If you provide a better idea of what you're looking for, we can probably provide better suggestions. |
I'm not too familiar with LA but I can only imagine that there are a ton of vegitarian restaurants. I would pick up a magazine or book on nightlife/dining in LA. Or you could do a google/zagat guide search for restaurant recommendations. Have fun!
