Dinner Music?

I'm noticing more and more restaurants playing what I would call inappropriate and disruptive music during dining.

I was in a restaurant in CUN a couple of weeks ago that used to play good music(jazz, classical, bossa). Now they're playing americanized junk like the Beach Boys, Bon Jovi, etc. It's like they're making an effort to go low-brow.

Now I realize some may like this kind of music, but does it have a place in a dining establishment.

PS. Sorry if this was discussed before, but I didn't see any threads that addressed this issue.

I suppose it depends on the style of restaurant and the target audience. I find a lot of dining and retail establishments choose music that might not appeal to all groups. Personally, I'd stick with light jazz/instrumental. It seems to have the most wide appeal and won't send most screaming into the streets covering their ears.

I think the part of your post which I bolded below is the most likely explanation. ;)

One would think, but there are a few restaurants in CUN that have chosen not to cater to the "spring break" crowd. However, I've noticed the same thing in this country as well.
