Restaurants in the Burj al Arab
 

Has anyone tried any of the restaurants in the Burj?

I'm thinking of trying al Mahara for lunch and al Muntaha for dinner the next day. :)

Any tips?

Just reviving this old thread - no one been to either of those restaurants?

I ate in the 'underwater' one about 2 years, but was in a private room, not in the main restaurant.

The 'submarine' to the restaurant is a bit of fun, if a bit tacky (this seems to be a theme running through the hotel). We had a 5 course tasting menu that was mainly made up of seafood (again I don't think this was main restaurant menu, but one chosen for our group by the organiser). The food & wine was good, but not memorable. It's an interesting place to visit & like no other restaurant I've been in, but the food is very average.

I did not see any prices but I understand you are looking at about £100 per person for the food alone. Wine will also be suitably expensive I'm sure.

In conclusion, if money is no issue then it's a but of fun, but at this price I'd be looking for a place with much better food.

I hear al Muntaha is much better in terms of food?

Am not sure to be the honest, as I've only been to Dubai the once. The Burj is well worth a visit, but you really do pay for it. I know you can go for a drink at the top if you just want to see it.

When I was there, the best food was at the Gordon Ramsay restaurant in the Hilton (but I'm sure new places have popped up since then).

Is there a cover charge for Burj access?
 

I recall reading in a travel mag sometime ago that even access to the Burj upper bar required payment. Is this true? I'll be going through Dubai in a few months, and while I had planned to look at the Burj tower because I think its architecture is fabulous, its price is out of my league (and besides, the pix I've seen show interiors that did not appeal to me at all...not a fan of Las Vegas either). However, I'm guessing that a view from the upper floors must be spectacular and allow photo ops.

Can anyone give info on the cheapest way to get into the Burj ... cheapest drinks? Is there a cover charge?

I think (& this may have changed since I was there) that you can either buy a pass to have a look around or reserve a table for drinks....it's not to my taste either, but well worth going in for a few drinks
