Restaurant suggestions for London

I will be in London next week for a night and wonder if someone could reccommend someplace good that won't break the bank. I'm not a big meat eater but do love fish. I'm by myself so ambiance not really a concern. I'll be taking the tube in from Heathrow, so knowing the nearest stop would be helpful. Thanks.

One fairly good place for Japanese sashimi and grilled fish is The Ikkyu Japanese restaurant at Tottenham Court Road 67A. Nearest tube stops are Goodge Street, Tottenham Court Road and Russell Square. It's down in the basement so a little bit hard to notice from the street. Food is authentic Japanese and many of the habitues Japanse professionals and academics. Please don't mix with the far less desirable Chinatown offspring.

Fish in London

3 great recommendations:

J Sheekey in Leicester square - one of the best in london, pricey but if you order well you can keep it together

La Pont De La Tour - a really interesting place in butler's wharf, across the thames from central london - you can get out of there fairly reasonably and the view of the tower bridge is unbelievable - if weather is nice a table outside looking up at the bridge watching the boats float by is one of my favorite things to do in london

If you really are on a budget and can not pay 20+ pounds for an entree try Livebait, the have several around but teh one in covent garden is quite good

Have fun!

If you can get a table, I'd second Sheekeys. That's the only fish restaurant I know, but you'll find more at www.squaremeal.co.uk . Otherwise, there's a vegetarian place on Lexington St called Mildred's that's very popular with my (few) vegetarian friends...

I love The Ivy in the theater district and quite often order the Dover sole. Delicious!

I'm no expert on London food, but we had great fish and chips at:

North Sea Fish Restaurant
7-8 Leigh St, WC1, Bloomsbury

Russell Sq. tube stop, cross the street to Marchmont St., walk past the Brunswick shopping Center and down the street to Leigh st., hang a right.

Price was reasonable and filled mostly with locals. Can't recall how I heard about it, but I'd go back for sure. Good selection of beer IIRC.

Another vote for J Sheekey - but you should reserve as it can be a hard table to get. It is in the theatre district and very popular.
