Restaurant suggestions for Athens ....
 

Heading to Athens next week... it has been 14 years since I was last there.... wondering if anyone has any favorite restaurant suggestions..... will be staying at the Grande Bretagne.....Thanks.

Well, for non-Greek restaurants ( :) I am not an expert in Greek restaurants), Kiku is probably the best Japanese restaurant, better than Freud Oriental, which has a nicer environment, and Beau Brummel in Kifissias is a very good French restaurant with a very good wine list, although it is somewhat far from the city centre and pricey. GB corner in the Grande Bretagne is an upscale brasserie with good service, surroundings and good products, just a little bit unimaginative. I have also been to a few tavernas with my Greek friends but do not have the names just now.

Microbrewery Craft is on Alexandras (virtually across the road from the Panathinaikos stadium). The beer is nothing to get excited about, but the food is very good indeed. Almost across the road from it there's a very good Greek restaurant (not taverna) called Agora. And last time I went I visited a very good newly opened Spanish (actually chiefly Basque) restaurant called Mayor in the eternally trendy suburb of Kifisia (on Harilaou Trikoupi...but that's the Har. Trikoupi in Kifisia, not the one in the city centre!)
