I know this is an old post... but I wanted to put in my recommendations for Xunta if you are gathering with a bunch of friends (the table where you put the food is literally a barrel. Strong sangria, good variety of tapas.
Not teh kinda place you take someone for an anniversary, however... |
Pipa.

Since you specified trendy, you may want to consider Casa Mono and Bar Jamon, the new places recently opened by Mario Battali (of Babbo and Food Network fame) and his partners:

New York CitySearch has a pretty good list.
http://newyork.citysearch.com/search...77___search__1 I like Agozar the most. Pipa is good too, but smaller dishes & more expensive (but more romantic and quieter). Suba only has tapas in their lounge. The food in the pool room is traditional entree. Very hip though. |
Here are a few of the tapas places I like -
El-Cid (15th Between 8th & 9th) Tia Pol (Chelsea) Oliva (Houston & Allen) N (West Village) Son Cubano (14th between 9th & 10th ) |
Best Paella
Can anyone recommend the best place in NYC for Paella?

El Quijote (adjacent to the Chelsea Hotel). The food is not top-flight, but the place is a hoot.
