Saturday lunch in Brussels?
 

I will be travelling to Brussels on Sat November 13th for a day trip and would like to ask the FT community to recommend good places for a casual-style lunch. The lunch will be a family affair, no business involved.

Afterwards we (three) will have to attend some more official program beginning from the hotel "Maison du Dragon" at the Boulevard Adolphe Max.

Seafood restaurants or places serving "lighter" dishes would be preferred as both me and one other person attending will have an intercontinental flight on the previous day. Thanks for any tips in advance. :)

I'm just going to be missing you by a day (plan to be there on Friday the 12th). I've had great lunches at Cave du Roy http://www.caveduroy.com/ , located on the Grand Place (cellar level). You could make it as heavy or light as you wanted, including mussels (more than you can eat). I also had a great lunch several years ago at a little cafe next to it (looking at the Cave du Roy door, it's the first door to the left of it, also cellar level) and it had some lighter fare such as sandwiches -- unfortunately I don't recall the name of it. Both were very enjoyable and great atmosphere.

There are a ton of outdoor cafes in the center of town. Most have their menus posted. It is easy to find just what you are looking for.

Great point! That's how I usually find a place to eat in BRU, and haven't had a bad meal yet. Unfortunately (or perhaps it's fortunately , as it means finding new places) other than the two I mentioned above, I never remember the names or locations of them.

We ended up having lunch at the "Cafe Metropole", which looks like being a favorite of the Euro bureaucrats. Just sandwiches and salads this time, for dinner we had great Vietnamese Pho and assorted tidbits to make up for that. ^

Glad you were able to find something that worked! Friday I had lunch in one of my favorite cafes, Cirio (I'm posting this so I can remember the name for the next trip :eek: ). It's a couple blocks off the GrandPlace (walking in the direction of the Marriott). Great place to grab a sandwich, or just to have a coffee, beer, etc.
