Lunch in HNL

We are traveling to Bora Bora and will have an extended layover in HNL. We get there around 1 pm and don't leave untill about 6 pm.

Looking for suggestions for a nice lunch off the airport property.

Thanks

1. Hale Kulani Hotel on the patio over looking the ocean and pool.

2. Sam Choys Breakfast Lunch and Crab.

3. Rent a car and drive to the North Shore Turtle Bay.

Aloha!

I second Sam Choys. And it not far from the airport.

How much would a cab cost from HNL to Sam Choy's? Also looking to kill a 4 hour layover (6-10pm) in HNL...

I'll third Sam Choys.

If you don't mind you can take The Bus (public transporation) OR cab for about $15 OWwith tip.

I will third or fourth Sam Choy's Breakfast, Lunch & Crab. You'll have more than enough time to rent a cheap Pricelined car or the "TheBus" to get to the Nimitz location and it'll also help you see a little more of the island, though it can be a little industrial.

Let me offer another suggestion, though. Rent a car, get a good plate lunch, drive to the nearest beach and have a nice relaxing meal there. If you're interested, I can advise you more on which places would serve up the best ono local food, but this might be a good way to start your vacation in another tropical place.

Lastly, this topic has been covered before countless times in the Hawai'i board. A search on that forum will bring up a handful of threads regarding where to eat during a long layover (or other suggestions for alternative things to do).

Let us know what you decide upon.

aloha

Thanks for the suggestions. So far Sam Choys seems to be tops. I love the Halekulani, but we are staying there for 4 nights on the way home...so I think I'll wait.

Another idea - Mariposa at Neiman Marcus in Ala Moana. Not too far, great food, popovers to OD on, beautiful views,...
