Good steak in Phoenix
 

I'm looking for a really good steak in Phoenix. It doesn't have to be a fancy steak house although those can be good also and I don't automatically rule them out. I'd love to find a place that puts their money into the meat instead of the red velvet seats.

I noticed that Harris' (a branch of the fine San Francisco steakhouse) has closed, and that a La Jolla restaurant, Donovan's, is taking over the space. I'm not sure if it has opened yet - maybe a Phoenix (or a San Diego area) Fter can comment:

Four suggestions: Fleming's (two in Scottsdale), Mastro's , Drinkwater's City Hall Steakhouse (Camelback Road). If you want to try cowboy-kitsch, try Rawhide on Scottsdale Road.

There is also Ruth Chris on camelback if you like that

Mastro's is the best.

It's not fancy, and it has been around for a long time, but over the years Durant's on North Central has served some very good steaks. I don't think they have a website (way too high-tech for these folks)---phone number is 602-264-5967.
