Looking for eats near Wrigley.
 

Hello,
I am looking for some good eats near Wrigley. I will be going to a 3:05 start. Thanks in advance! Italian, Pizza or Burgers.

There are tons of options near Wrigley Field. Murphy's, behind the left field bleachers (if memory serves me correctly), has a great hot dog. It's an old-timey place to stop before or after a game. The Cubby Bear is another classic, though I've found the food to be not that great. Yak-Zies and Bernie's are two more old standards. Good places. And, of course, don't forget the Billy Goat Tavern. I really dig their burgers -- and that place is worth a trip in just because it's the Billy Goat Tavern.

I'm told that, more recently, there's been a Goose Island brew-pub added to the area and it's pretty good. My all-time favorite, though, has been the kosher hot dog place that's run out of a window just outside the right field bleachers. I don't think it even has a name, but it's just the thing that hits the spot before a game.

On the pizza front, I know of Pizano's Pizza, which is pretty darn good, too. It's in the Malnati family, which is really well-known for their Chicago pizza. I'm still partial to Gino's East and Giordano's myself, but hey ... Chicago pizza rules.

Enjoy the game -- Wrigley is the best place for baseball, in my mind.

Second that Goose Island Brewery...righteous Bacon Cheddar burger. Havin' one tomorrow (as long as my flight gets in on time) before the Cubbies whoopass on the hapless Rockies...yum.

there's an excellent heaven on seven nearby also...cajun food done by a greek family - the best!

OK, here is the scoop from a 20 year season ticket holder:

Yak-zies has great Buffalo wings, on Clark St., in the block north of the ball park. They have an outdoor beer garden too.

There is a fun '50's style diner, called Salt and Pepper, on Clark, just south of the park - next to Goose Island Brewery.

I second the idea of hot dogs at the place across from the right field bleachers. The name is Sports Corner Grille and you can carry the dogs into the ball park.

There is really no good pizza near the ball park except for Pat's Pizza (thin crust) on Sheffield, about 5 long blocks south of the park, just south of Belmont Avenue.

IMHO, if you want a real taste of Chicago in Wrigley Field, get an Italian Beef sandwich (you can order with sweet peppers or hot pepper giardiniera) at the Italian Market on the concourse behind third base inside the park. They are surprisingly good! Or get a GRILLED hog dog, with grilled onions, if you wish, at one of the Chicago Style Hot Dog Carts on the main concourse - be advised the lines are long. These are GOOD. And, unlike many other parks, you can get fresh chopped onion, pickle relish, mustar and ketchup - in addition to hot peppers and chopped tomotoes for the chicago style dogs.

FYI, there is a 7-Eleven at the corner of Sheffield and Addison, across from the Right Field Entrance and the Harry Carey statue. You can carry in Big Gulp Coke products (only putrid Pepsi products inside the park) if you don't do beer or have kids who have discriminating tastes!

If you decide on eating outside the park, make sure you allow plenty of time. This year, since all games are sold out, these places are jammed before, during and after the games!

Giordano's on Belmont Avenue is great :-) We love the spinach stuffed, but their thin crust is good too, and love their salads!

Just the thought of going to Giordano's and passing up the Chicago pizza breaks my heart ... why do they do the thin crust when the classic is so good. All the cheese ... I'm going into pizza-shock.

Good first post! Welcome. Another good thing about Giordano's is that its slightly off the beaten track and won't have the ballgame traffic. Actually, the spinach is good - add pepperoni to the spinach and it is simply amazing!

Just went to Goose Island last Saturday and had an excellent Fish & Chips--probably the best I've had in a long time. And they have very good beers.
