Mass marketed or not, Famous Dave's Devil's Spit is the best BBQ sauce I've ever tasted from a bottle sold in stores. It's all I buy now.

Thanks. Only see a "Dave's Gourmet Insanity Sauce" from that shop and presume a different brand than Famous Dave's. Will look for it next time I'm in the US though.

I am going back in March - taking my father when he visits from New York. Excited.

Phil's is decent but I wouldn't call it the best ever. I'm not even sure it's the best in San Diego, to be honest.

Speaking of which, I went to a BBQ place inside Westfield Garden State Plaza last month that was pretty decent. I don't recall the name of it at the moment though.

Noooo...

Had a Z Man sandwich in MCI last month. Damn tasty- had to eat it onboard as I was running rather late for my flight... imagine it would have been even better eaten there. Wish I had more time to order more stuff there, but was at Jack Stack right before that visit

New spot for me, Cou-yon's BBQ in Allen, LA (just west of Baton Rouge). Your typical southern style no frills location in terms of the interior (wooden benches, counter service, no booze etc.) but incredibly friendly employees and a great menu. They do loaded baked potatoes just the way I think a BBQ place should and their ribs were good too. They also have amazing sides.

Guess I’ll answer my own query - went to Midwood Smokehouse in Charlotte tonight because it was by our hotel. Two thumbs up - we thought it was very good, particularly the brisket

A new BBQ place is going to open near me soon: https://sandiego.eater.com/2018/12/1...-public-market

I'll have to go down there once they open and see if it's a contender for best BBQ.
