Smelt
 
I know there are bars in Chicago that serve baskets of them w/your beer but sadly I do not know of any.

Currently I get a bag at some of the Chicagoland fried fish houses or when I am in Northern WI at some bars I know of there.

Anyone else like smelts? Where did you dine on yours?

Does anyone smelt fish? Looks like an excuse to drink some beer by the lake when I've seen the smelt fisherman at night w/their dipping nets. http://www.flyertalk.com/dining/ftdi...orum/smile.gif

I used to eat them at the University Club of Detroit. Sadly, said club is no longer with us. It went belly-up in 1992. The smelts were fabulous there. Haven't had them anywhere since then.

that is a shame, my pop is a member of the University Club of Chicago. Last spring they had a smelt fry, pop and I had baskets of them.
