Any good tips for eating spots in Anchorage? Thanks..

Try Humpy's in the downtown area. It's a great bar with food. Try the halibut tacos and some salmon spread with french bread.

Ditto on the Humpy's recommendation. I LOVE their halibut tacos.

Try The Top of the World at the Hilton downtown. Great views and good food. Their caesar salad is the best I've ever had. Made to order at your table. Also, Simon and Seaforts is good too.

Agree on the Hilton.

Last time I was there they had some interesting soups (cold rasberry).

I had two of the best breakfasts of my life in the Anchorage area a few years ago, but I can't remember the name of either restaurant. One was located on Fourth Avenue downtown, approximately across the street from the Fourth Avenue theater. The other was in Girdwood at the base of Alyeska ski area, where a couple of guys served up a fabulous "farmer's breakfast" of eggs, potatos, onions and bacon bits. I'd fly back just for another serving of "farmer's breakfast".

0524, Were you by chance eating at Chair 5 at Girdwood? I skied Alyeska in early April and this fits the description. Also very good in Girdwood is JJ's, a Chinese hole in the wall in 'downtown' Girdwood. I have read and seen (on foodTV) good things about The Double Musky in Girdwood for Cajun seafood, but they were closed on Monday when we went there. We stayed at the Alyeska Prince hotel and were underwhelmed by their expensive chow, although the teppanyaki room (closed when we were there) looked reasonable and has been favorably reviewed.

Back to ANC, however. My very favorite dining experience was at the Lucky Wishbone. Fresh chicken flown in from the lower 48, buttermilk breaded and fried just so, served with fantastic milkshakes. We did dine very well at the Hilton and Glacier Brewhouse, but I'd make a mileage run back to ANC just for that chicken! Enjoy.

I would recommend the Double Muskie. I can't tell you exactly were it is (I was driving from Anchorage to Kenei), but I believe its around Girdwood. Somebody correct me if I'm off.

Its tucked off the main road so its a little hard to find, but well worth it. Also the drive from Anchorage around the inlet is beautiful.

Another place I liked when I was there was the Moose’s Tooth Pub. Great beer and pizza place. They have a web page at http://www.moosestooth.net/

We had a wonderful dinner one August evening at the restaurant at the Regal Hotel. It has tables set near large picture windows with a view of an airport. Late dinner there during the extended Alaskan twilight presents a tableaux of planes taking off and landing against the red sky, an image that will stick in your mind for quite a while. And did I mention that the food was very good?

The Crow's Nest in the Captain Cook hotel is supposed to be one of the best options in ANC. In my estimation it isn't half bad. The prices are a bit high, but the view is great, the service is solid and the food has been good the two times I've been.

Got to agree with the recommendations for the Double Musky in Girdwood. It's a left-hand turn onto Crow Creek Road off the street between the Seward Highway and Alyeska ski area. I still have my Double Musky sweatshirt.

There is a very good restaurant called Paris, down the street from the Captain Cook Hotel. Been there for years, great steaks and martinis. For breakfast, drive around until you see a crowded parking lot full of pick-up trucks. I always do that in a new town and never am dissapointed.

We ate at Crow's Nest in the Captain Cook hotel last August for my mom's birthday. Dad had a Platinum Amex and that got us the private round table in the corner with glass on two sides and a beautiful sunset.

The food was excellent and they had a great wine list. Yum Yum.

Also ate at a nice restaurant in Seward, forgot the name but they had a nice selection of hard to find wines at reasonable prices.

My brother and his wife are Marine Biologists and they live in Alaska. I am hoping to make one more trip up there before they move back down to the lower 48 this year. Alfred--
