Today is National Cheeseburger Day
So, today is National Cheeseburger Day - but it doesn't seem like the big fast-food cheeseburger chains are really getting into the spirit of the day.
I was joking with a friend, sarcastically chiding McDonald's for offering their $1.89 double cheeseburger for $.50 whereas Wendy's is selling the Jr. Bacon for $.01 with any other purchase and Burger King for free with a $1 or more purchase. She responded by saying that $.50 was still a good deal for the homeless and the poor. I then pointed out that McDonalds was offering only one $.50 cheeseburger - which you have to pay for with a credit card - using their app - on your mobile phone. I guess that's still better than Shake Shack, which requires you to pay for a minimum GrubHub delivery order. Burger Fi's offering is $3 - not $3 off, just a burger for $3. Carl's Jr. is half-off. Smashburger is offering a $5 cheeseburger. Is that even a discount? In-N-Out and Steak 'n Shake aren't even playing. Five Guy's is also not playing, but they really hope you are able to buy one of their normally priced cheeseburgers today. :D |
Weird - I thought I saw that Five Guys was playing, free single burger with purchase of large fries and drink.
And..."spirit of the day"? It's a completely made-up "day" that the burger chains had nothing to do with. Do we expect them to play just as much for National Fries Day, or National Chicken Nuggets Day, or National Fish Filet Day, or National Milkshake Day, or National Soft Drink Day, or...? |

The Food & Wine article I read didn’t list anything for them.

I don’t know what “we” expect but I as a consumer expect to take it in the neck from corporate America in the normal course of doing business. Here’s where I would post the ‘lighten up Francis’ meme - but I’m above that kind of facile, cliched response, so I won’t do that. :D |
Yum
I love cheeseburgers. |
I had a pork chop and salad for lunch to celebrate!
|
No Coke Pepsi no fries chips.

If true, that’s the best deal of all. That would be a $9 savings [$7 if it is the Little Cheeseburger] - if one were planning on going to Five Guys this week.

Just like most observational days and holidays, yet we have Mother’s and Father's day threads, a donut and taco day thread, etc. I don’t know what “we” expect but I as a consumer expect to take it in the neck from corporate America in the normal course of doing business. Yikes - I just checked the local five guys (we have not gone in a few years) - a small cheeseburger is $9.49. The 'regular' is 11.69. Little fries are $5.19. A coke is $2.99. Total for a regular / small fries / coke with tax is $21.06.
That is just way out of line! (suburban Washington DC - not close in....) BTW, not sure where you live but a double cheeseburger at McDs is $3.19 around us.... Not doing fast food is good for health - both your own and your wallet's! |

Edited to add: Perhaps that was the price for the McDouble - which near as I can tell is a double cheeseburger with just one slice of cheese. I dunno. What I do know is that Apple Pan should be required by state law, if not federal law, to offer their double cheese steakburger [$19] for $1 today. |

That's what it was the last time I actually bought one. Which really wasn't that long ago - just before the pandemic I believe.

Apple Pan is up to $19?? 😲 I wonder what the hickory burger is now.
Still worth it though ;) Don't get me started on the apple pie. |
The local Applebee’s “celebrated” by closing for good tonight…
