Favourite Restaurants/Bars in your Neighborhood

Thought it would be a cool way to find some hidden Gems around the world, basically restaurant has to be within a 30 minute walk from where you live

For me:

City: Toronto
Restaurants:
Dinner:
Lake Inez - great good and really cool vibe, Wynona - Amazing food and wine very well priced, Pinkertons Snack Bar is also really cool.
Breakfast: Mahas - Egyptian Brunch (get there early there's always a line), Lazy Daisy's - simple, well priced breakfast with good coffee
Bars: Pinkertons, Vatican Giftshop for more older crowd (late 20's - 40's club vibes), Poor Romeo - there's a whole strip of places around there that I enjoy

Y'all have places within walking distance from your home? The suburban United States could never - hah!

I would have to cross Hwy 27 - the spine of Florida - to get to the single non-chain restaurant within 15 minutes of my home. Without crossing a highway, at risk of life and limb, I can get to the worlds crappiest Dunkin Donuts and Popeyes Fried Chicken. Crossing a semi-dangerous county route gets me to McDonalds. I’m sure glad I have an automobile and all the time in the world to drive to something better than that.

Nothing wrong with Popeyes.

Probably not, although I might eat fried chicken once every couple years. Still, if we dine out twice a week, I’m glad I have transportation. 100 meals a year at Popeyes would get pretty old.

Calgary, Alberta

Pegasus Restaurant
SW inner city area

Greek food
Same owner/chef since 1982 (yes, he is really a native Greek too)
Open from 500PM until 900PM every day, a small place with 40 seats, usually 75% full
He's there at 1100AM making the food for the day's customers

Masala Bhavan
SW inner city area

East Indian
Family owned and run with chefs from India
Usually 50-75% full at dinner
Priced about 35% less than any comparable Indian place, and the food is by far the best Indian I have ever had

Minas
Downtown

Brasilian churrascaria based on the food from the Minas Gerais region
Owned by a Brasilian churrascaria chef with decades of experience, he's there cooking and serving every day
Usually 50-75% full at dinner
You'll need a wheelchair in order to leave after you're done

30 minute walk can get you pretty far in a city, but not far at all in the suburbs. Maybe a better gauge is a <10 min drive. Closest "gem" I could find in my north suburb of Chicago was Abigail's Bistro -- 1 hr walk or <10 min drive.
